The publisher has not identified the specific licenses or platform rules behind that decision.
What “separated” means on Steam
There are two different questions: can you launch Zero separately, and can you own or install it as a standalone Steam app? PC Gamer reported that the store description calls Zero a “DLC executable launched separately from the base game.” That means it can have its own launchable executable while still being distributed as DLC through ACE COMBAT 8. The ACE COMBAT Team says it is not currently available as a standalone Steam application. PC Gamer
Why Bandai Namco says it is bundled
In its Steam clarification, the ACE COMBAT Team said: “Due to licensing restrictions and platform-related considerations, it cannot currently be released on Steam as a standalone application.” That is the publisher’s stated explanation, not a detailed account of the underlying arrangements. The statement does not name particular aircraft manufacturers, licenses, contract clauses, or a specific Steam technical rule. Claims that a particular license expired or that Steam fees caused the arrangement are not established by the clarification. ACE COMBAT Team on Steam
What the current Steam arrangement includes
Bandai Namco announced ACE COMBAT ZERO: THE BELKAN WAR, originally released in 2006, as a preorder bonus for ACE COMBAT 8: WINGS OF THEVE. Bandai Namco Europe’s FAQ describes the included game as a port of the original, not a remaster. The reported Steam wording distinguishes that DLC executable from a standalone application, so separate launching should not be confused with independent ownership or installation. - Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
PC Gamer also reported complaints from players who wanted separate Zero achievements or separate Steam cloud saves. Those are concerns about the consequences of the current package arrangement; they do not establish that a standalone release is planned or technically impossible for a particular reason. In one installation observed by PC Gamer author Wes Fenlon, ACE COMBAT 8 occupied 140.24 GB on his SSD and the Zero DLC occupied 3.2 GB. Those are measurements from that installation, not official or universal storage requirements. PC Gamer
Is a change coming?
The ACE COMBAT Team apologized for not making the distribution method clear earlier and said it was reviewing player feedback and exploring possible options with platform partners. It also cautioned: “At this time, we cannot guarantee that any changes will be made.” There is therefore no confirmed standalone Steam release to rely on. ACE COMBAT Team on Steam
