Animoca Brands reported US$280 million in bookings for the 12 months ended 31 December 2023, down from US$402 million in FY2022. That is a US$122 million decrease, or about 30.3% calculated from the reported totals. The company’s 10 July 2024 investor update labeled its financial highlights unaudited and non-IFRS.
What Animoca Brands meant by “bookings”
Bookings was a company-defined, non-IFRS measure—not another name for revenue, profit or cash generated. Animoca Brands said it combined income-statement revenue with deferred revenue. Deferred revenue is a balance-sheet liability for payments received before the related service has been delivered; as the company provides those services, the deferred amount is recognized as revenue.
The company said this treatment applied particularly to digital assets sold through games and applications when Animoca Brands had an obligation to provide future services. Its FY2023 investor update describes bookings as total sales activity combining revenue and deferred revenue.
Where the FY2023 bookings came from
Animoca Brands divided the reported US$280 million among three activity categories:

Why did bookings fall?
Animoca Brands attributed the decline mainly to slower activity across digital-asset markets and the difficulties crypto-related businesses faced after the FTX scandal, the collapse of Luna and TerraUSD, and related crypto-winter events. This is the company’s explanation; the investor update does not establish an independent analysis of how much each factor contributed.
The annual drop did not mean bookings declined in every quarter. The company reported that fourth-quarter 2023 bookings rose 59% from the third quarter as digital-asset markets strengthened toward year-end.

What happened after FY2023?
In its 5 March 2025 update, Animoca Brands reported US$314 million in FY2024 bookings, compared with US$280 million for FY2023. It assigned US$165 million to Digital Asset Advisory, US$110 million to Web3 operating businesses and US$39 million to investment activity. The company again described bookings as a non-IFRS measure combining income-statement revenue and deferred revenue. This reported increase provides subsequent context, but it does not change the basis of the original FY2023 disclosure.
Animoca Brands’ 8 September 2026 FY2025 update reported US$173 million in FY2025 bookings and said the annual financial highlights were unaudited and non-IFRS. The company also said it had issued audited financial statements for FY2023 in July 2026; its investor-relations index lists the FY2023 annual report as released on 17 July 2026. The contents of that report are not established here, so it cannot be said whether the audited statements reproduced or reconciled to the US$280 million bookings figure.
