Behaviour Interactive acquired Rotterdam-based Codeglue to add European talent and strengthen its external-development Services division. Announced on 22 August 2023, the deal made Codeglue Behaviour Rotterdam, with co-founder Peter de Jong named as its general manager. The announcement described Codeglue as a 30-person studio; that was its headcount at the time, not a current figure.
Why did Behaviour Interactive acquire Codeglue?
Behaviour said the acquisition would strengthen its Services division and expand its access to gaming talent in Europe. The company described Codeglue’s experienced team as an addition to that division’s capabilities. In its announcement, Behaviour also highlighted Codeglue’s multi-platform co-development experience and its recognition as Best Studio at the 2022 Dutch Game Awards.
The rationale was about development capacity and regional reach, rather than a publicly stated purchase price or a specific project. Behaviour’s co-founder, CEO and executive producer Rémi Racine said, “The addition of Codeglue’s experienced team further enhances the capabilities of our world-class Services division.” He also said Codeglue was a match for Behaviour’s needs and culture.
What changed for Codeglue?
Codeglue was founded in Rotterdam in 2000 by high-school friends Maurice Sibrandi and Peter de Jong. At the time of the acquisition announcement, Behaviour said the studio had 30 employees and would operate as Behaviour Rotterdam. De Jong was named general manager of the new studio. He described the companies as having much in common after experiencing the gaming industry’s many changes over the preceding 23 years.
