Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →“Can’t connect to my Nintendo Account” usually means one of three different problems: Nintendo’s service is unavailable, the console or network cannot reach Nintendo, or the account sign-in is failing. Check Nintendo’s Network Status first and write down the complete error code before changing account settings. Then use the section below that matches where the failure occurs.
1. Check whether Nintendo is having an outage
Open Nintendo’s official Network Status page. Look for notices affecting Nintendo Accounts, Nintendo eShop, Nintendo Switch Online, console services, or scheduled maintenance.
- If an interruption is listed, wait until Nintendo reports that service has resumed.
- If no interruption is listed, continue with the local connection and account checks below.
- Do not factory-reset the console, delete a user, or create a replacement account while a service problem may be responsible.
Error 2124-7504 generally indicates a likely temporary Nintendo Account service outage on Switch, Switch Lite, Switch OLED, and Switch 2. Nintendo recommends checking Network Status and waiting if it persists: Nintendo’s 2124-7504 guidance. The message “The Servers Are Currently Busy. Please Try Again Later” can also result from temporary traffic; Nintendo advises checking Network Status and trying again later when no disruption is posted: Nintendo’s server-busy guidance.
A status page is a snapshot. “Operational” does not prove that an earlier interruption did not occur or that a local account problem is unrelated.

- The next evolution of Nintendo Switch
- One system, three play modes: TV, Tabletop, and Handheld
- Larger, vivid, 7.9” LCD touch screen with support for HDR and up to 120 fps
- Dock that supports 4K when connected to a compatible TV*
- GameChat** lets you voice chat, share your game screen, and connect via video chat as you play
2. Identify exactly where sign-in fails
| Where it fails | What to investigate first |
|---|---|
| Nintendo Account website | Internet access, credentials, verification, or account recovery |
| Switch or Switch 2 user-linking screen | Console connection, correct account type, and the intended user profile |
| Nintendo eShop | Network Status, linked user, and the exact eShop error code |
| Online play | Sign-in first, then Nintendo Switch Online entitlement, parental settings, and game requirements |
| Password reset or account creation | Correct email or Sign-In ID, mailbox access, and account type |
| Nintendo Switch Online or another mobile app | App sign-in method, device network, and Nintendo service status |
3. Prove that the console has internet access
- Open the Switch or Switch 2 internet settings and run the built-in connection test.
- Confirm that another device can use the same Wi-Fi network.
- Restart the console and home router.
- Move nearer to the wireless access point and re-enter the Wi-Fi password if the saved credentials may be wrong.
- As a diagnostic only, try a different network such as a phone hotspot. Mobile-data charges or limits may apply.
If the account works on a hotspot but not on home Wi-Fi, investigate the router, DNS resolver, firewall, filtering, captive portal, or ISP. If it fails on both networks, service availability, authentication, console software, or account linking is more likely. A successful Wi-Fi test does not prove that Nintendo’s account servers are reachable.
Do not treat arbitrary DNS changes as a universal account fix. They can occasionally help with a resolver-specific fault, but they can also introduce new problems and should not replace the Network Status check.
4. Verify the account identifier and password
A general Nintendo Account can sign in with its registered email address, a configured Sign-In ID, a passkey, or a linked Google or Apple account. A Sign-In ID is not the Nintendo nickname. Nintendo documents the Sign-In ID location as Account Settings → Sign-in and security settings → Sign-In ID: Nintendo sign-in methods.

Forgetting which email was used? Open Nintendo’s sign-in page, choose Forgot your password?, and test likely addresses. A reset message can identify the account associated with an address. Except for child accounts, Nintendo says each account uses a unique email address: Nintendo’s account-identification FAQ.

Password-reset failures
- Check spam, junk, promotions, and mailbox filters.
- Confirm that the address was entered correctly and that the reset link is current and unused.
- Do not use the parent’s email address to reset a child account.
- If you no longer control the registered email address, repeated reset requests cannot solve the access problem. Nintendo directs users who cannot change the account email address to contact support: Nintendo sign-in help.
5. Fix verification and 2-Step Verification
Email verification
Nintendo may send a verification code to the account email even when 2-Step Verification is not enabled. You must be able to open that mailbox; an outdated or inaccessible address requires Nintendo Support.
Authenticator codes
With 2-Step Verification enabled, enter the account identifier, password, and the current time-based code. Nintendo documents confirmed operation with Google Authenticator using the TOTP standard: Nintendo 2-Step Verification support. Ensure the phone’s date and time are set automatically if codes are consistently rejected.

- The battery life will depend on the games you play. For instance, the battery will last approximately 5.5 hours for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (games sold separately)
- Model number HAC 001( 01)
Lost phone or authenticator
- Use one unused backup code. Nintendo provides 10, and each works only once.
- If a backup code restores access, reconfigure or remove 2-Step Verification before exhausting the remaining codes, then set it up again to protect the account.
- If the authenticator and all backup codes are unavailable, contact Nintendo Support rather than guessing repeatedly.
SMS authentication and phishing
A phone number on a general Nintendo Account can support SMS identity verification and password recovery; child accounts cannot register one. Nintendo also says a phone number may be required for Switch 2 GameChat, which is separate from ordinary account sign-in: Nintendo phone-number guidance. Legitimate Nintendo Account SMS messages contain an authentication code and no URL. Treat a text containing a sign-in link as phishing.
6. Child-account sign-in is different
Nintendo child accounts cover ages 0–17 under Nintendo’s account model. They are created inside a parent or guardian’s family group, do not require an email address, and use their own Sign-In ID and password. The parent manages the child password. Child accounts cannot use Google or Apple Easy Sign-In, passkeys, or 2-Step Verification: child-account support.
- Sign in to the parent or guardian’s Nintendo Account.
- Open the family group and select the child account.
- Manage or reset the child’s password there.
- On the console, choose the child-account sign-in method and enter the child’s Sign-In ID and password—not the parent’s email address.
- Check the displayed account name before continuing.
7. Linking a Nintendo Account to a Switch user
On Switch 2, Nintendo’s documented child-account path is:

- 6.2” LCD screen.
- Three play modes: TV, tabletop, and handheld
- Local co-op, online, and local wireless multiplayer
- Detachable Joy-Con controllers
- Connect the console to the internet.
- Open the user icon from the HOME Menu.
- Select Sign In to a Nintendo Account.
- Select Other Sign-In Methods.
- Enter the child account’s Sign-In ID and password.
- Confirm that the displayed account is the intended one.
- Select Link.
Follow Nintendo’s regional instructions at Switch 2 account linking. Stop if the wrong account appears: Nintendo warns that a user cannot simply be linked to a different Nintendo Account after linking. This is why you should not delete the profile or create a new account until ownership is clear.
Older guides can also mislead you. Nintendo Network ID Easy Sign-In ended on April 24, 2020, and Facebook and Twitter Easy Sign-In ended on October 25, 2022. Use current Nintendo Account methods instead.

Nintendo eShop
Verify the intended console user is linked to the Nintendo Account that owns the purchases, then check Network Status and preserve the complete error code. Error 2813-9014 is associated with a likely temporary eShop outage or maintenance; see Nintendo’s 2813-9014 guidance.

- One player can use a Joy-Con in each hand
- Two players can each take one
- Multiple Joy-Con can be employed by numerous people for a variety of gameplay options (additional Joy-Con sold separately)
- Slip a set of Joy-Con into a Joy-Con grip accessory, mirroring a more traditional controller. Or, select an optional Nintendo Switch Pro Controller.
Do not create a new account as a quick workaround. Nintendo Account-specific purchases, eShop balance, subscriptions, and history can remain tied to the original account, making a different account look as if content or funds have disappeared: Nintendo Account support hub.
Online play
Account linking enables account-based services, but many online-play features additionally require a paid Nintendo Switch Online subscription. A missing subscription is not an inability to sign in. If sign-in succeeds but a game will not connect, check subscription status, parental restrictions, game-specific requirements, and Nintendo service status separately.
9. Error-code triage
| Message or code | Likely category | First action |
|---|---|---|
| 2124-7504 | Likely temporary Nintendo Account service interruption | Check Network Status and wait |
| “The Servers Are Currently Busy. Please Try Again Later” | Temporary traffic or outage | Check Network Status, then retry later |
| 2813-9014 | Likely temporary Nintendo eShop disruption | Check Network Status and eShop maintenance notices |
| Any other code | Service-specific condition | Record the full wording and search Nintendo Support for that exact code |
10. Contact Nintendo Support when local fixes are no longer appropriate
