Try for a Baby only appears when several conditions line up. EA’s pregnancy guide says romance is required, the interaction is found on supported objects, and each Sim’s pregnancy settings and age have to allow conception. If the option is missing, check those conditions in that order before looking at mods or custom content.
Step 1: Confirm the relationship is romantic
EA states that romance is required for Try for a Baby. Two Sims who are friends or otherwise not in a romantic relationship will not show the option, no matter where they are standing. Step 2: Use a supported object
Try for a Baby is an interaction tied to specific objects rather than to the Sims alone. EA lists four: beds, showers, hot tubs, and rocketships. Select one of these with a Sim in the relationship and look for Try for a Baby in the interaction menu. If you are standing on a different object or in an open area, the option will not appear there.
Step 3: Compare WooHoo with Try for a Baby
The two interactions are a useful diagnostic pair:
- WooHoo is missing too: the problem is probably the relationship or the object. Recheck Steps 1 and 2 first.
- WooHoo is available but Try for a Baby is not: the relationship and object are likely fine. Move to the pregnancy settings and ages below.
Pregnancy settings: which pairs can conceive
Each Sim has a pregnancy setting in Create a Sim. EA documents three options: become pregnant, get others pregnant, or neither. A pregnancy between two Sims requires that one of them is allowed to become pregnant and the other is allowed to get another Sim pregnant. Check both Sims. A common cause of a missing option is a pairing from the table’s “No” rows, which can happen when two Sims were created with the same setting.

Teens
Teens cannot become pregnant. A teen paired with a Sim who can become pregnant will not produce the option through that pairing.
Elders
Elders can get others pregnant but cannot become pregnant. An elder paired with a Sim set to become pregnant can satisfy the settings rule, but two elders cannot conceive with each other.

If the settings and ages check out: household and mods
When the relationship, object, and pregnancy settings are correct and the option is still missing, EA’s own documentation does not list further causes. Community threads on EA’s forums offer two troubleshooting suggestions. They come from players and forum helpers, not from EA, so treat them as things to test rather than confirmed causes:
- Household capacity. Some players report the option failing in households at or near their size limit. Check how many Sims are in the household and whether a recent change has pushed it to that limit.
- Mods and custom content. Some threads report that the interaction returns after mods are removed. - Check the mod or custom content creators’ pages for updates to the files you use, especially after a recent game update.
- Install the updated versions and test again.
- If the option is still missing, add mods back in small groups and test after each group until the interaction disappears again. The group that removes it contains the conflict.
The July 2025 pregnancy fix
EA has acknowledged a pregnancy-related problem before. In a patch note dated July 16, 2025, EA said it was reverting performance optimizations related to pregnancy issues introduced in the July 1, 2025 update, and advised players to check with specific mod authors about mod updates. The note reads:
“Today’s update will fix the recent issues seen with Sim Pregnancy introduced on July 1, 2025 in version 1.116.202.1030 for PC, 1.116.223.1230 for Mac, and 2.14 on Consoles.” — The Sims 4 Team, July 16, 2025. The note is at https://www.ea.com/games/the-sims/the-sims-4/news/update-7-16-2025.

That fix was for a specific issue in a specific update. It is historical context, not evidence that the missing option is a current, widespread bug. If you are on one of the listed versions and the problem began around that update, the note is worth reading; otherwise, work through the checks above first.
Alternatives: Science Baby and adoption
If Try for a Baby cannot be used for a particular pair, EA’s guide names two other in-game ways to have a child. The guide establishes that these paths exist but does not give a full comparison, so the table below records only what is stated.
