If Days Gone crashes or will not start on PC, there is no single confirmed cause or guaranteed fix. Start with the in-game crash report if it appears, then work through Windows and driver updates, Steam file verification, background software, and hardware settings. The steps below follow PlayStation’s game-specific guidance and Steam’s general troubleshooting advice.
First, identify where the failure happens
A game that will not download or open as a purchase is a different problem from one that starts and then crashes. PlayStation directs download or purchase-opening problems to the retailer; Steam purchasers can also report issues in the Steam Community Hub. For a crash after launching, use the checks below. Neither PlayStation nor Steam identifies one cause that explains every PC crash.

Submit the in-game crash report
If the crash report option appears after a crash, submit it before trying the other steps. PlayStation’s guidance is: “If your game crashes, please submit an in-game crash report.” The option is available after a crash, so you cannot use it for a failure that occurs before the game displays it. Install pending Windows updates
Check Windows Update and install any pending updates, then restart the PC and try the game again. PlayStation lists Windows updates among its game-specific troubleshooting steps, and Steam also recommends checking for system updates when a game will not launch. Steam launch troubleshooting

Update relevant device drivers
Check the manufacturers’ support tools or websites for drivers for your video and sound devices, motherboard, and processor. PlayStation names these driver categories but does not specify a particular version; install the appropriate update for your hardware rather than relying on an unsupported “required” version.

Steam’s store listing gives these requirements for Days Gone. They are the published specifications, not a diagnosis of an individual crash.

Verify the game files in Steam
If your copy is installed through Steam, use Steam’s file-integrity check to look for files that are not installed correctly. In Steam, open your Library, right-click Days Gone, choose Properties, select Installed Files, then choose Verify integrity of game files. Let the check finish and retry the game. Temporarily close non-essential software
Steam recommends disabling non-essential software when troubleshooting launch problems. Close background utilities and overlays one at a time where practical, then retry the game so you can see whether behavior changes. The general guidance does not identify a specific overlay or utility as the cause of Days Gone crashes.

Test with one display and disable SLI
If your PC uses multiple monitors, unplug the extra screens and restart the game with one display connected. If you use two graphics cards in SLI, disable SLI for the test. PlayStation specifically lists extra screens and SLI as possible trouble areas; this check applies only if your setup uses them.

Return overclocks to stock, then reinstall if necessary
If the CPU, GPU, or memory is overclocked, restore its normal stock settings and test again. If the problem persists after the applicable checks, reinstall the game as a later step. PlayStation includes both actions in its troubleshooting guidance, but neither is a universal fix. For a Steam copy, consider verifying the files before reinstalling.
When the checks do not solve it
If the game still fails, use the in-game report when a crash presents that option. Steam purchasers can also report the issue in the Steam Community Hub; download or purchase-opening problems should go to the relevant retailer. Steam’s general launch guidance notes that failures can have different causes across hardware and software configurations, so these steps narrow down possibilities rather than identify a fault by themselves.
