Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →A yellow or unusually warm image in GTA can come from the scene’s lighting, the game’s visual effects, HDR settings across the game and display, Windows color settings, or a TV or monitor picture mode. It is not a confirmed sign of one specific fault, and the right fix depends on which GTA version and platform you’re using. Compare the game with other content on the same display, then change one setting at a time.
First, find out whether GTA is the only thing that looks warm
Compare the same display’s desktop or system interface and another game or video. If those look warm too, start with Windows or the display’s picture settings. If the cast appears only in GTA, focus on the game’s settings and the particular scene. This comparison helps narrow down the cause; it does not identify one automatically.
Use the same scene and viewing conditions for each comparison. Change one control at a time so you can tell whether it affects the image.
Check Windows color and HDR settings
On Windows 10 or 11, temporarily turn off Night light and compare the image again. Microsoft notes that Night light can make display colors look red-tinted, which may be perceived as a warmer image. Windows HDR settings can also affect how SDR content appears on an HDR display; adjust the HDR/SDR brightness balance if the issue is brightness mismatch rather than color hue. See Microsoft’s HDR settings guidance for the relevant controls. Windows 10 support ended October 14, 2025, and menu paths or behavior may differ by Windows version.

Review your TV or monitor’s picture processing
For HDR troubleshooting, Rockstar recommends disabling picture enhancements that may be labeled AI, Smart, Dynamic, or Adaptive, along with Dynamic Tone Mapping. Try Game Mode if your display offers it. Names and availability vary by display, so check its picture menu rather than looking for one universal setting. Rockstar also advises confirming that the display supports HDR and that HDR is enabled on the display and platform. Its HDR troubleshooting guidance is general advice for Rockstar games, not a GTA-specific claim; it was last updated August 25, 2026.
Check the HDR connection before buying anything
Rockstar advises checking that the connecting cable supports HDMI 2.1 as part of HDR troubleshooting. Treat this as a compatibility check, not as evidence that a cable caused the yellow color: the guidance does not establish that buying a new cable generally fixes a warm tint. Check your existing connection and the platform’s HDR setup before considering a replacement.

For GTA V on PC, test Post FX
In GTA V’s PC graphics settings, lower Post FX temporarily and revisit the same scene. NVIDIA’s GTA V PC graphics guide describes Post FX as controlling effects including bloom, glare, lens flare, and HDR lighting. A change may help you determine whether in-game processing is contributing to the look; it does not mean Post FX is necessarily the cause. Restore your original setting if the comparison does not help. These controls are for GTA V PC and should not be assumed to apply identically to later editions.
For GTA V Enhanced, compare HDR with SDR if available
A June 2026 analysis of GTA V Enhanced reports HDR on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, but not on PC. The analyst judged the console HDR presentation harsh and recommended SDR for a more natural appearance. That is a subjective assessment of the specific implementation examined, not a universal calibration rule for every display or player. If your platform lets you compare HDR and SDR, use the same scene and check whether the change improves warmth, brightness, shadow detail, and highlight visibility. Do not treat any slider values from one setup as a standard for all screens.

Why the cause varies by game, edition, and scene
Game rendering can affect the image independently of the display. GTA V’s lighting and post-processing may look different from one scene to another, while HDR adds a chain of settings involving the game, platform, connection, and display. A warm look in one scene therefore does not establish that every GTA version has a yellow filter or that a display is faulty. GTA V Enhanced’s reported HDR availability and the PC Post FX controls also do not apply automatically to every GTA title, platform, or edition.
