Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →A spinning loading symbol means YouTube has not started or resumed playback; the symbol alone does not identify the cause. It could be your device or connection, a problem shared by people on your network, an issue with the broadcaster’s stream, or a temporary YouTube problem. Compare another stream, device, or connection, and check whether other viewers are affected to narrow it down.
Start by finding out who is affected
Before changing settings, note when the spinner appears: from the start, after playback has begun, or specifically when an ad is about to start. Then compare the playback conditions.
- Only you are affected: Start with your device, app or browser, and internet connection.
- Several people on the same network are affected: Check that shared network and its connection to the internet.
- Viewers on different networks are affected: The broadcaster may need to investigate the stream or encoder.
- The spinner appears as an ad is about to start: This timing resembles a past YouTube incident, but does not establish that the incident has returned.
These patterns are triage clues, not proof of a particular fault. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance recommends trying another supported device or internet connection when playback remains faulty.
Try these fixes as a viewer
Refresh the player and test another stream
- Refresh the player, or close and reopen the YouTube app or browser.
- Try another live stream. If other streams play normally, the issue may be specific to the stream you were watching.
- If possible, try the same stream on another supported device.
- Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data, or try a supported wired connection. If one connection works and another does not, the failing connection or its route may be involved, though that test cannot identify the precise network fault.
On a computer
- Close and reopen the browser, then make sure it is up to date. YouTube recommends using a current supported browser and suggests Chrome in its troubleshooting steps.
- Close unnecessary tabs and restart the computer.
- If the problem occurs in just one browser, try another browser or a private window. If playback works there, an extension or stored browser data could be contributing; this test does not by itself identify which one.
On a phone or tablet
- Try another connection, such as switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data.
- Close and reopen YouTube, then check for app and device software updates.
- On Android, clear YouTube’s app cache from the device’s app settings if that option is available. Menu names and cache controls vary by device and software version.
On a TV or streaming device
- Check that the device is connected to the internet. YouTube’s TV troubleshooting guidance recommends at least 7 Mbps for HD streaming on TV; this is guidance, not a guarantee against buffering.
- If the player offers a quality control, try a lower playback quality.
- Quit and reopen YouTube. If appropriate for your device, sign out and back in.
- Restart the TV or streaming device and check for system software updates.
- If it uses Wi-Fi, try placing it nearer the router with fewer obstacles or sources of interference between them.
Check whether the connection can sustain playback
YouTube’s general system-requirements guidance lists these approximate sustained speeds for watching video. Live streams, movies, and TV may need faster connections and more processing power. Meeting a listed speed does not guarantee that playback will never buffer; stability and the playback device matter too.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Playback context | YouTube guidance |
|---|---|
| General minimum internet connection for watching YouTube videos | 500+ Kbps |
| 1080p HD | 5 Mbps sustained |
| 4K UHD | 20 Mbps sustained |
| HD on a TV | At least 7 Mbps, in YouTube’s TV troubleshooting guidance |
The 7 Mbps TV recommendation is specific to YouTube’s TV troubleshooting guidance; it is separate from the general 5 Mbps recommendation for 1080p HD. These are YouTube recommendations, not measurements of your connection. If Wi-Fi may be the problem and your device supports it, testing with a wired connection is another way to compare.
If you are the broadcaster
Use reports from viewers as a first triage signal. Ask whether they are using the same network, whether other streams play, and whether the issue starts at a particular moment. One report alone cannot show that your stream is at fault.

- If one viewer reports the spinner, suggest testing another device or connection before changing the stream.
- If several affected viewers share a network, the common network may be involved. YouTube gives the example that 10 users watching 10 streams require 10 times the inbound network speed; this is an illustrative shared-network example, not a universal measured result.
- If reports come from viewers on different networks, inspect your live-stream metrics, reported errors, and encoder preview. Check that the encoder output is healthy and that outbound internet connectivity is strong.
- If the encoder looks healthy but its internet connection appears unreliable, investigate the connection with your provider. YouTube recommends reporting a continuing live-stream problem through its support process.
When the spinner appears as an ad begins
On April 14, 2026, a TeamYouTube Google employee, Natasha, updated a YouTube Community thread about a persistent loading icon when an ad was supposed to start on some monetized live streams, primarily on desktop browsers and TV apps. The update said the issue was fixed and advised viewers to refresh the player. That is a historical incident report, not evidence that the same issue is happening now.
When to contact someone
- Contact the broadcaster: Other streams work for you, but one particular live stream remains stuck.
- Check your network or contact your internet provider: Several people using the same connection have the problem, or switching connections changes the result.
- The broadcaster should investigate the stream: Reports come from viewers on different connections. The broadcaster can inspect encoder output, stream metrics, and reported errors.
- Report a continuing YouTube playback problem: YouTube recommends its support process for ongoing live-stream problems. Viewers can also submit in-app feedback after a playback problem.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you are a broadcaster whose pre-recorded YouTube stream needs to keep running, StreamNeo is a separate option for cloud-based looping; it does not fix a viewer’s device, connection, or YouTube playback problem. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; videos stream as uploaded at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. Start your free day on StreamNeo.
