If your YouTube lofi radio stream loses audio after a few hours, the duration alone does not tell you why. Find where the sound disappears: the music source, encoder, local recording, YouTube ingest, or only some viewers. Compare the encoder’s audio meter, a local archive, YouTube Live Control Room health messages, and reports from viewers on different networks before changing settings.
First, locate where the audio disappears
At or shortly after the next cutoff, note the time and check the music source, encoder, and any local recording. YouTube recommends checking what the stream looks and sounds like in the encoder and reviewing a local archive for problems. YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guide also recommends checking encoder errors, CPU load, and the outbound connection when the encoder output looks healthy.
| What you observe | What it points to | What to check next |
|---|---|---|
| The source app stops, or its encoder meter goes flat | The source, playback device, or audio route | Confirm the music is still playing; inspect the selected playback and capture devices, routing, and power or sleep behavior. |
| The encoder meter moves, but the local archive and broadcast are silent | The encoder’s selected audio mix or its stream configuration | Review the audio output or mix, encoder logs, and YouTube health messages. |
| The local archive contains sound, but viewers report silence | Possibly ingest, connection, delivery, or viewer-side trouble | Check Live Control Room health and connection indicators. Ask whether affected viewers share a network or are on separate networks. |
| Only one viewer reports silence | That viewer’s device or connection may be involved | Compare playback on another device or network before changing the encoder. |
| Several viewers on different networks report the same problem | A shared stream or encoder issue becomes more plausible | Match their reports to the archive, encoder status, and timestamped YouTube health messages. |
These observations narrow the possibilities; they do not by themselves prove a cause. If you do not have a local archive, enable one for a controlled test if your encoder supports it, so you can compare the recording against the live playback.
Match the cutoff time to YouTube’s stream health
In YouTube Live Control Room or the Live Dashboard, inspect the health indicator and the messages timestamped near the audio loss. YouTube says the indicator reports issues detected in the stream sent to its systems; errors are marked by severity and remain visible while unresolved. Use the message that actually appears as a lead rather than changing unrelated settings.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
YouTube documents audio-related ingest errors for no audio stream, multiple audio streams, unsupported audio codec, incorrect audio bitrate or sample rate, and more than two audio channels. Its error guidance describes H.264 video with AAC audio for the stated configuration and lists AAC or MP3 as supported audio codecs in its detailed messages. On that Help page, YouTube recommends 128 Kbps audio bitrate and a 44.1 kHz sample rate in the relevant error context. Treat these as troubleshooting values, not proof that either setting caused your cutoff: follow the specific warning shown for your stream.
The YouTube Live Streaming API health reference names diagnostic categories such as noAudioStream, multipleAudioStreams, and audioCodec, as well as audio bitrate, sample-rate, channel, and primary/backup mismatch issues. These are labels to help interpret observed stream health, not a reason to alter a setting without a matching symptom or error.

If the encoder and archive have sound, investigate the connection
If the encoder output and local archive both contain audio, check the encoder’s connection or dropped-frame indicators and correlate them with the failure time. YouTube recommends choosing stream quality appropriate to your internet connection, testing upload speed, running a representative test, and monitoring stream health during the event. A speed test is a snapshot; stability during the actual stream matters too.
OBS’s Stream Connection Troubleshooting guide, dated 2024-09-30, says dropped frames indicate an unstable connection or a bitrate the connection cannot sustain; enough dropped frames can disconnect a stream. If you use OBS, try lowering video bitrate to a level your connection can sustain, changing one variable at a time. A lower video bitrate is a connection test, not a fix for a source app that stopped producing audio or an incorrect audio mix.

- If you are on Wi-Fi, test a wired connection. An ethernet cable for the streaming computer may help isolate Wi-Fi instability, but cannot fix source playback or audio routing.
- Check encoder connection warnings, network drivers, router or modem connectivity, VPN or security software interference, and cables or other network equipment if the evidence points to connection trouble.
- If the problem persists after local checks, ask your ISP about sustained congestion or routing problems that may be outside your control.
OBS’s guide says it is “extremely unlikely” for OBS Studio to cause dropped frames; that statement is about dropped frames, not every kind of audio failure. If your output and archive show no problem but the stream still fails, YouTube also advises considering a controlled test with a different encoder after checking the current setup.
Run a representative test before the next long broadcast
YouTube advises testing with audio and video movement similar to what you plan to stream, then monitoring health during the event. For a lofi radio stream, use the intended music source, audio routing, encoder settings, and network path in the test. Record the test locally if possible, note the start time, and check both the archive and Live Control Room afterward. A brief test can reveal configuration problems; it cannot guarantee a long-running stream will remain healthy.
