Roblox rarely closes for no reason. The closure itself does not show which cause is responsible, and Roblox’s own support articles describe several separate possibilities: the device running low on memory, a problem with the app or device, third-party software interfering with the game, and an unstable connection to Roblox servers. The fastest route to a fix is to match your symptoms to one of these categories and then try the steps for that category first, rather than assuming a network outage or applying one generic fix to everything.
Match your symptom to a likely cause
Use the table below to narrow down the category before you start changing settings. Roblox does not publish a way to diagnose a specific device from the symptom alone, so treat each row as the most likely path, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Low memory is not the same as low storage
Roblox states that an out-of-memory crash can happen when too many apps run in the background, or when the device is not powerful enough for the experience being played. Free storage space does not address this. Roblox’s iOS article “iOS App: Low Memory Warning (Error Code: 292)” says: “When your device is running out of memory, we want to give you the opportunity to safely exit the experience.”
If you see low-memory warnings, work through these steps in order:

- Close apps you are not using, especially video, browser, and social apps that run in the background.
- Lower the graphics quality in the experience’s settings.
- Try a less graphics-intensive experience to see whether the closures stop.
- If low-memory warnings happen frequently, Roblox suggests using a device with more memory. This is a conditional suggestion for repeated problems, not a general fix for every closure.
Platform-specific steps
Basic restart steps differ by platform. Start with the section that matches your device.
iPhone and iPad
- Update iOS and the Roblox app through the App Store, since Roblox asks players to keep both current.
- Force-close Roblox. On iPhones with Face ID, swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause in the middle, then swipe the Roblox card up. On models with a Home button, double-press the button and swipe the Roblox card up.
- Reopen Roblox and test the same experience.
- If the problem continues, restart the device and test again.
Android
- Open the recent apps view or your device’s task manager and close Roblox completely.
- Reopen Roblox.
- Reboot the device if the closure happens again.
- If these steps do not help, follow the Android-specific instructions in Roblox’s support articles or contact Roblox Support with the error and device details.
Mac
- Restart the computer and launch Roblox again, preferably from the Dock.
- If you play from Safari and the closures happen there, switch to a supported browser.
- If the problem persists, uninstall Roblox and reinstall it. Roblox’s Mac support article also covers resetting logs and settings.
Roblox’s Mac article lists macOS 10.13 (High Sierra) and later, including Apple Silicon Macs, as supported at the time of writing. Compatibility can change, so confirm the current requirements on Roblox’s live support page before reinstalling.
Windows, PlayStation, and Xbox
Roblox keeps separate support articles for desktop, mobile, PlayStation, and Xbox. For Windows, use Roblox’s “General Desktop Roblox Issues” article and its reinstall guidance. Do not apply the Mac or mobile steps above to Windows, because the menus, reinstall process, and browser options differ. Console players should use the console-specific article.

Error Codes 266 and 279: connection problems
Roblox explains that Error Code 266 and Error Code 279 relate to connection trouble between your device and Roblox servers. Its guidance suggests testing a different internet connection. If you are on Wi-Fi, try mobile data or a different network. If the closures stop on another connection, the original network is the likely cause.

If the app closes without either code, a different category from this article is more likely.
Interfering third-party software
Roblox’s anti-cheat guidance attributes “Roblox was stopped” messages to software interfering with the game. Recently installed tools that monitor, overlay, or modify the game can cause this. Identify the software that changed around the time the problem started, then update it, change its settings, or remove it.

Avoid turning off security protection broadly to test this. Adjust or remove the specific software that is interfering instead.

Sometimes the app closes with no message and no error code. In that case, the exact cause is not identifiable from the symptom alone. Keep a short log for several sessions:
- The time of each closure and what you were doing in the seconds before it
- Whether it happens in one experience or across several
- Any recent operating system, app, network, or software changes
- Whether the device was running other apps or a browser at the time
Once you have this log, you can match it to the categories above and decide which steps to try next.

What to send Roblox Support
If the closures continue after the steps above, contact Roblox Support with the following:
- The exact error text or code, if one appeared
- Your device model and operating system version
- The steps that reproduce the closure
- Any recent device, software, or network changes
- Whether the closure happens in one experience or several
Roblox asks for this kind of information in its technical reports, and it allows support to tell a memory issue from a connection problem or a software conflict much faster.
