Erling Haaland became the Barbarian King in Clash of Clans’ football-themed May 2024 season. Supercell described the collaboration as the first time the game added a character based on a real person. The season and its medal event have ended; this was a limited-time collaboration, not a newly announced or ongoing event.
Why was Erling Haaland in Clash of Clans?
Supercell announced the partnership on April 30, 2024, saying Haaland was already a longtime Clash of Clans player and that his enthusiasm for the game helped prompt the collaboration. He appeared as the Barbarian King, and players could attack his in-game village. Supercell framed the appearance as the game’s first character based on a real person; that “first” is the publisher’s description, rather than an independently verified history of every character in the game.
Haaland said in Supercell’s announcement: “I’ve been a huge fan of the game for a long time and know everything about it, so to appear as an in-game character is really cool.” The announcement also described Clash of Clans as having more than two billion downloads. That is Supercell’s figure as reported on April 30, 2024; the announcement did not specify a counting method or time period, so it should not be read as a current total.
What was included in the Clash With Haaland season?
The May 2024 season combined football-themed gameplay, temporary troops, cosmetics, and event rewards. Supercell’s May 1 season post described the following content:

- Medal-event rewards: The event included the temporary Giant Thrower troop and Yellow Card spell, Spiky Ball Barbarian King Hero Equipment, and a Football Archer Queen skin.
- Shop content: The Barbarian King Haaland skin and football scenery were listed in the shop.
These details describe what Supercell announced for that season; they do not mean the items are available now. Supercell’s event posts do not establish whether any of the cosmetics might return later through a separate offer.
When did the Haaland medal event end?
Supercell said the medal event ran from May 7 through May 24, 2024, with medal exchange available through May 26, 2024. Those dates are historical: the event’s play and redemption windows are over.
