Sony announced on October 29, 2024, that it would permanently sunset Concord and close Firewalk Studios. Sony said the game had not reached enough players and had missed its targets, but did not publish figures quantifying its sales, audience shortfall, budget or losses.
What Sony announced about Firewalk and Concord
Sony Interactive Entertainment announced both decisions on October 29, 2024: Concord would be permanently sunset, and Firewalk Studios would close. In the announcement, Sony described the PvP first-person-shooter genre as highly competitive and said the game had not met its targets. Sony’s announcement is the official record for the closure and its stated rationale.

Why did Concord shut down?
Sony’s explanation was that some aspects of Concord did not reach enough players and the title failed to meet the company’s targets. The statement did not break down those targets or quantify how far the game fell short. It therefore supports saying the game underperformed against Sony’s expectations, not assigning a specific sales total, player count or financial loss.
Firewalk Game Director Ryan Ellis had announced the first shutdown on September 3, 2024, saying that parts of the experience and the initial launch had not landed as intended. That was the studio’s own assessment at the time, not a quantified explanation of the later decision. The September update also set out the immediate service and refund changes.

When did Concord launch and go offline?
Concord launched worldwide on PS5 and PC on August 23, 2024, as a 5v5 multiplayer shooter. On September 3, Firewalk said the game would go offline beginning September 6; sales stopped immediately. Sony announced the permanent sunset and Firewalk’s closure on October 29.

What happened to sales, refunds and physical copies?
When Firewalk announced the September 6 offline date, it said sales would stop immediately and purchasers would receive refunds. Buyers who purchased directly through PlayStation were directed to PlayStation’s refund process. People who bought a physical copy from another retailer had to use that retailer’s refund process. The announcement said that players who received a refund would lose access to the game.

A standard PS5 edition was offered in both physical and digital formats. The existence of a disc does not mean the game remains playable: Sony later permanently sunset the title. A physical copy may matter to collectors or people interested in game packaging, but it should not be treated as a way to access the discontinued online service. The physical and digital editions were described in PlayStation’s June 2024 pre-order announcement.

Sony’s closure announcement and Firewalk’s service update do not publish a sales figure, concurrent-player count, development budget or financial-loss total. They also do not provide a detailed causal breakdown of the game’s reception.
