If Geometry Dash closes at the RobTop logo, will not launch, or crashes when you load a level, start with force-closing the game, restarting your iPhone, and checking for updates. Do not delete the app until you have considered your save: deleting it erases local mobile data, and only progress saved to the Geometry Dash cloud can be restored after reinstalling.
First, identify where the crash happens
- Nothing happens when you tap the icon: the app may be stuck, incompletely installed, or affected by an iOS restriction. Try the general startup fixes below.
- The RobTop logo appears, then the app closes: this is a startup crash. An outdated app, an iOS compatibility issue, or damaged or oversized local data are possible causes.
- The menu opens, but one level crashes: suspect that level’s data, its object load, or available device memory. Test a simple level before changing or deleting the whole app.
- The game crashes when you exit the editor: a large editor project or save-data problem may be involved.
- Several apps crash, not just Geometry Dash: check iOS and available storage as well as the game.
Geometry Dash is generally crashing as an app in these cases; an internet or account problem is not the first thing to assume.
Protect your progress before deleting the app
RobTop’s FAQ says deleting Geometry Dash on mobile erases local data, while cloud-saved data can be loaded after reinstalling. Unsynced local progress may therefore be lost permanently if the game will not open and you cannot save first. If the game still launches, use its in-game account/save options and confirm a cloud save before deleting. Keep the Geometry Dash login credentials: its cloud account is separate from the Apple Account used to purchase the app.

Apple also warns that deleting an app may remove data stored locally on the device. Reinstalling is not the same as restoring a save.

Try the least destructive fixes first
1. Force-close Geometry Dash
- On a Face ID iPhone, swipe up from the bottom edge and pause to open the app switcher. On an iPhone with a Home button, double-click the Home button.
- Find Geometry Dash and swipe its preview up to close it.
- Reopen the game from the Home Screen.
This follows Apple’s first-line advice for an app that closes unexpectedly or will not open: close and reopen it.
2. Restart the iPhone
Turn the iPhone off, wait briefly, turn it back on, and test Geometry Dash before trying a more disruptive fix. Apple recommends restarting after force-closing an app that still will not work.
3. Check for a Geometry Dash update
- Open the App Store and tap your account/profile icon.
- Check the available updates and update Geometry Dash if it appears.
- Open the game and test it again.
Compare the installed version with the version shown in the App Store rather than relying on older troubleshooting posts. The U.S. listing showed version 2.208 on August 18, 2026; its recent version history describes bug fixes, and 2.208 also lists networking improvements and quality-of-life changes. Updates are worth installing, but those notes do not guarantee a fix for every device or crash. App Store details can change by date and region: Geometry Dash on the U.S. App Store.

4. Check for a stable iOS update
- Open Settings → General → Software Update.
- If a stable update is available for your device, install it, restart the iPhone, then test the game.
Geometry Dash has had reported launch-crash problems following major iOS changes. App Store reviews documented reports around iOS 15, and users also reported crashes after the iOS 17 rollout in this community discussion. Those are historical reports, not proof that a current iOS release is broadly incompatible. If the game stopped working immediately after an iOS update, compatibility is a reasonable leading possibility, but only RobTop can confirm whether that particular release is responsible. If the problem began on an iOS beta, do not treat beta software as a supported environment; use a stable release if one is available. Do not attempt an iOS downgrade as a routine fix.
Check compatibility and free storage
Confirm your device and software details
Open Settings → General → About to check the model name and iOS version. The current U.S. App Store listing states that Geometry Dash requires iOS 12.0 or later on iPhone (and iPadOS 12.0 or later on iPad). That is the stated store minimum, not a guarantee that every device meeting it will run every current level reliably. The listing does not establish a particular iPhone model as unsupported.
Check available capacity
Open Settings → General → iPhone Storage. The U.S. listing gives the app’s size as 190.6 MB, but an update or installation may need additional temporary space. No precise extra free-space requirement is established, so do not treat the listed app size as the total space needed.

If storage is nearly full, remove or offload unused apps, delete large downloads or videos, and clear Recently Deleted photos if you are sure you do not need them. Restart the phone and try again. iOS does not provide a standard Geometry Dash cache-clearing button; do not follow Android instructions for this.
If the menu opens but a level or editor project crashes
RobTop’s FAQ notes that object-heavy levels can crash on some devices, and that crashes may occur while loading a level or when exiting an editor copy. It also identifies oversized save files and unnecessary saved or editor levels as possible contributors to runtime problems.
- Try a simple built-in level. If it works while one downloaded level does not, avoid repeatedly loading the problem level.
- If the menu remains usable, remove the problematic local level or unnecessary downloaded and editor levels. Reduce or remove a large editor project if the crash happens when leaving the editor.
- If simple levels also crash, restart the game and iPhone, then continue with the update and storage checks above.
If the crash happens before the menu, you may not be able to manage saved levels inside the game. Do not try to delete iPhone app files with unsupported tools or jailbreak methods.

Delete and redownload only as a last resort
Apple includes deleting and redownloading an app in its troubleshooting sequence, but for Geometry Dash this is the riskiest step for progress. A fresh installation may help if app files are damaged; it will not necessarily solve a developer-side compatibility bug, and it cannot recover progress that existed only in local data.
- If the game still opens, save to the Geometry Dash cloud first and confirm you know the login details.
- If it does not open, decide whether possible loss of unsynced local progress is acceptable before continuing.
- Delete Geometry Dash, then redownload it from the App Store using the Apple Account that bought it.
- Launch the game and use the Geometry Dash account’s in-game cloud-load option to restore saved progress.
If you previously purchased the game, RobTop says you do not need to pay twice when using the same purchasing account. The Apple purchase account and Geometry Dash cloud-save login are different accounts, and redownloading the app does not restore an unsynced save. See the App Store listing and RobTop FAQ.

Apple advises contacting the app developer if an App Store app still fails after its troubleshooting steps. The App Store listing gives [email protected], but RobTop’s FAQ says the email may not be actively answered because of the volume of messages and points users with important issues to Geometry Dash moderators. A reply is not guaranteed.

Include the details that help distinguish an app crash from an iOS or device-wide problem:
- iPhone model, iOS version, and Geometry Dash version
- Whether the app does nothing, closes after the RobTop logo, crashes on a level, or crashes on leaving the editor
- When the problem began and whether it followed an iOS or app update
- Whether other apps work normally and how much storage is available
- Whether progress was cloud-saved and whether you have already reinstalled
- Any visible error message
Apple’s app troubleshooting steps are at its support page. Avoid unofficial modified downloads or jailbreak fixes; they are not a safe substitute for the App Store version.
