If the level shown above your character in the Fortnite Lobby has dropped to Level 1 but your Locker items are still there, Epic Games says the most likely explanation is a new season in the Fortnite experience you are playing. Your seasonal level starts again from 1, and you need to level up in that season. Your overall Account Level is a separate number that Epic says does not reset. If your items or progress are also missing, the cause is a different problem, usually about which Epic account is signed in or how a console account is linked.
Two situations that look alike
Players often describe both cases as “my level reset,” but they point to different causes and need different checks. Compare what you can see before you change any settings.

| Lobby level is 1, Locker items are still present | A new season has started in the Fortnite experience you are playing, according to Epic Games’ Lobby-reset guidance | Play the current season to level up again. Check the Career tab for your overall Account Level. |
| Lobby level is 1, and items or saved progress are missing | Epic lists two likely causes: signing in with the wrong Epic account, or a console account that is not linked to the Epic account holding your data | Confirm the Epic account, then review platform linking. Follow the steps below before unlinking anything. |
Seasonal level and Account Level are different numbers
The level above your character in the Lobby tracks the season you are currently playing. Epic defines your Fortnite Account Level separately, as the combined levels you have gained across every Fortnite season. Epic’s support wording puts it this way:
“Your Fortnite Account Level is the combined levels you have gained across every season of Fortnite.” — Epic Games Player Support
#1 Best Overall
- An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.
- Redemption: Online
So a seasonal reset does not erase the levels you earned in earlier seasons. It changes the number that starts from zero, and your Account Level remains the figure to check for lifetime progress.
Check your Account Level in the Career tab
Open the Career tab to see your overall Account Level. If the Career tab shows a high overall level while the Lobby shows Level 1, the Lobby reset is almost certainly seasonal and your account history is intact. If the Career tab also shows a low or empty level, move on to the account checks below.

When items or progress are missing too
If your Locker items and progress are missing along with the Lobby level, Epic’s guidance points to the account rather than the season. Epic states:
“Your Epic Games account is where all your saved data and progress is stored, not your linked console account.” — Epic Games Player Support

Work through these steps in order.
Step 1: Confirm which Epic account you are signed in to
- Sign in with the email address you associate with the account that held your progress.
- If you use a console sign-in, note which Epic account it opens. Epic’s guidance suggests trying the external sign-in account known to be linked to your original account.
- Check whether the Career tab shows the Account Level you expect.
Step 2: Review the platform link
Epic’s instructions for a console account that has been linked to an empty Epic account are:
- Sign in through that console account.
- Register the Epic account if the game prompts you to do so.
- Verify the email address on the Epic account.
- Unlink the console from the empty account.
- Link the console to the Epic account that holds your data.
Do not skip ahead to step 4 before you know which account contains your data. Launching Fortnite on a console that is not linked to your original account can create a new, empty Epic account. The original account and its progress stay on the original Epic account, but the console will now be playing on the new one.

Step 3: Understand what unlinking removes
Epic warns that unlinking a console removes that console’s access to Fortnite progress and purchases. Before you unlink, identify the account that holds the items and level you want, and confirm that the console you are unlinking is attached to the empty account rather than the one with your data.
Step 4: Contact Epic support
If you have completed the steps above, you are sure you are using the correct account, and progress is still not visible, submit a support ticket through Epic Games Player Support. Include the Epic account email, the platform you play on, and a description of what the Career tab and Locker show.

What the sources do not establish
Epic’s support pages explain the two patterns above, but they cannot tell you why a specific account changed. A Level 1 Lobby display with items intact is consistent with a new season, but it does not prove it for your account on its own, so check the season name shown in-game before you assume it. Epic’s guidance also does not attach a published figure to how often this happens, so no population statistic is available for this issue.
The fix depends on which Epic account holds your data. Once you know that, the path is either playing the current season or completing the account and linking steps above.
”
The Bottom Line
A Lobby level of 1 with Locker items intact usually means a new season has started, and you need to level up again within it. If items or progress are also missing, confirm the Epic account and the console link before unlinking anything, and contact Epic support if the steps do not restore your data.
