Call of Duty login problems can happen at several different stages: signing in to your console or PC account, signing in to Activision, completing email or two-factor verification, or connecting to the game’s online service. First identify which stage is failing, then check Activision and platform service status before changing account or network settings.
Find out where the login stops
“Logging in” may mean different things. Check which of these best describes what is happening:
- Platform sign-in: You cannot sign in to the PlayStation Network, Xbox network, Steam, Battle.net, Nintendo, or Epic account you use to play.
- Activision account sign-in: The platform account works, but Activision rejects your email or password or you cannot access the Activision account.
- Verification or 2FA: The game or account page asks you to verify an email address or complete a two-factor authentication challenge.
- Game connection: You can sign in to your platform and Activision accounts, but the game cannot connect to online services.
This distinction matters: a network outage will not be fixed by resetting an Activision password, and an account verification prompt will not be fixed by restarting a router.
Check whether Activision or your platform is having a service issue
Before troubleshooting your account or home network, check Activision Online Services. Select the relevant game or service, then check the linked status page for your platform, such as Xbox, PlayStation Network, Battle.net, Nintendo, Steam, or Epic Games. These status pages change over time, so a current outage should be confirmed there rather than assumed.

If the platform itself reports a problem, wait for service to return and try again. If both Activision and the platform show service available, continue with the branch that matches the point where you get stuck.
If Activision asks you to verify your email
Some players with existing Activision accounts may be asked to verify the email address on the account before they can log in or use games that require an Activision account. Activision’s email verification instructions, updated August 18, 2026, explain the verification flow. Follow the instructions for the address associated with your account rather than creating another account to get around the prompt.

Activision may also require an email security challenge when you link an account or change credentials. If you cannot access the associated email address or the verification does not work, use Activision Support Options to select the account issue that fits your situation.
If your password is rejected or you suspect the account was compromised
Use Activision’s account recovery page for rejected credentials, recovery needs, or suspected account compromise. Do not treat every login error as a password problem: Activision routes account recovery, email verification, two-factor authentication, account linking, and enforcement issues to separate support paths.

If the problem is 2FA, account linking, or enforcement
If you are stopped by a two-factor authentication challenge, follow the current Activision support route for 2FA; avoid relying on old setup steps, since the instructions can change. If the issue concerns a linked platform account, choose the account linking or unlinking option. If you see a ban or enforcement message, use the enforcement support path instead of repeatedly trying to sign in or changing your password.

Once platform and Activision account access are confirmed, troubleshoot the connection. Activision’s Online Services page recommends basic checks such as restarting the router, checking connection speed, and limiting applications that use substantial bandwidth. If you are playing over Wi-Fi, try a wired Ethernet connection as a diagnostic: Activision specifically recommends wired Ethernet for online gameplay in its Black Ops connection guidance, which explains that Wi-Fi reliability and bandwidth can vary. That guidance is specific to Black Ops and does not make a cable a fix for account verification, incorrect credentials, 2FA, enforcement action, or an outage.

When a PC shows a security or compatibility prompt
If you play on PC and the message specifically mentions TPM 2.0 or Secure Boot, follow the relevant instructions under Activision Account Security. This is a distinct PC requirement, not a general explanation for every Call of Duty login failure.
What to include in a support request
If the official steps do not resolve the issue, give support enough detail to route it correctly:
- The exact Call of Duty title and the platform you use.
- The exact error code or wording on screen.
- Whether the failure occurs at platform sign-in, Activision sign-in, email or 2FA verification, or the game’s online connection.
- Whether the platform and Activision service-status pages show an issue.
Start with Activision Support Options and select the category matching that failure stage.
