If your cursor disappears only while you look around in Minecraft, that may be normal: Java Edition uses relative mouse mode during gameplay, so a free desktop pointer is not always shown. If it is missing from menus too—or vanishes only in fullscreen—check the edition, input device, and display mode before assuming the mouse has stopped working.
First, identify where the cursor disappears
Separate a pointer that is hidden while playing from one that is invisible in Minecraft’s menus. Also check whether it still clicks or interacts with the game. If it works despite being unseen, that points to a visibility or display-mode symptom rather than a completely unresponsive mouse, but it does not establish the cause.
- Only while looking around in the world: In Java Edition, this can be expected. Mojang’s Java Edition 26.3 release notes say, “Mouse input now always uses relative mouse mode while playing in-game.” Relative mouse mode uses mouse movement for looking around rather than a freely moving desktop pointer.
- In menus, inventory, or the title screen too: That is different from the documented gameplay behavior. Check fullscreen mode and, if relevant, Java’s cursor-shape setting below; the official notes do not identify one universal fix for a missing menu cursor.
- Invisible but still interactive: Record that detail when troubleshooting. A Microsoft Q&A user described a fullscreen-only case in which the cursor still worked and returned in windowed modes. It is an individual report, not proof that fullscreen is always the cause or that the same workaround will fix every setup: Microsoft Q&A report.
Check your edition, device, and input method
Java and Bedrock do not have identical platform contexts. Microsoft’s edition comparison, last updated May 20, 2025, says both editions support keyboard and mouse. Java runs on Windows, Mac, and Linux PCs; Bedrock also runs on Windows PCs, consoles, and mobile devices, where touch or other input methods may apply.
Before changing settings, note whether you are using Java or Bedrock, your platform and operating system, and whether you are controlling the game with a mouse and keyboard, controller, or touch. A mouse-pointer symptom on a Java PC is not automatically the same issue as a Bedrock console or mobile control issue.

Test fullscreen behavior in Java Edition
If the cursor disappears only in fullscreen, temporarily switch to a normal window and check whether it becomes visible. In Java 26.3, borderless fullscreen is the default, and the release notes say players can switch between borderless and exclusive fullscreen without restarting. They also state that the cursor is confined to the window while exclusive fullscreen is active. These notes describe input and window behavior; they do not promise to resolve every visibility problem.
- Leave fullscreen and test Minecraft in a normal window.
- If the cursor is visible there, compare the available borderless and exclusive fullscreen modes in your current Java version.
- Check whether the pointer is missing only in the 3D world or also in menus, and whether it still interacts with UI elements.
A reported fullscreen-only case became visible in windowed and windowed-fullscreen modes, but that report is only a diagnostic clue. If changing display mode does not help, the available evidence does not establish another universal cause.

Check “Allow Cursor Changes” only for cursor shape issues
Java Edition 1.21.9 added cursor-shape changes for some interface elements, including text inputs, sliders, buttons, and scroll bars. The 1.21.9 release notes say the feature can be disabled with “Allow Cursor Changes” in Mouse Settings.
If the cursor changes shape on controls or becomes hard to recognize there, inspect that option in Mouse Settings. It enables or disables cursor-shape changes on supported UI elements; Mojang does not describe it as a master switch for showing a cursor.

For Bedrock graphics symptoms, try the general checks
Minecraft Help’s graphics troubleshooting guidance is general advice, not a confirmed cursor-specific fix. If the issue appears to involve graphics or UI rendering in Bedrock, follow its checks in order:
- Update Minecraft and your device’s operating system.
- On a Windows PC, update the graphics driver.
- Verify that the device meets the game’s system requirements.
- If the problem remains, try disabling add-ons and changing video settings.
What to record if the cursor is still missing
When asking for help, include the details that distinguish normal gameplay pointer behavior from a menu or fullscreen visibility problem:

- Edition and exact Minecraft version
- Platform and operating-system version
- Fullscreen mode, if applicable
- Whether the cursor still clicks or interacts while invisible
- Whether it disappears in menus as well as during gameplay
- Recent game, operating-system, or graphics-driver updates
- Any add-ons, mods, overlays, or screen-capture software in use
- Whether you use more than one monitor
The documented Java behavior explains why a free pointer may not appear during gameplay, but the official sources do not identify a single cause for every missing-cursor symptom across editions and devices.
