If My Time at Sandrock crashes on your Windows PC, start with the steps the developer has documented: update the game, verify its installed files through Steam, and confirm your PC meets Steam’s listed requirements. Only after those should you consider mods, older file-level workarounds, or a support request. No source establishes a single cause for every crash, and the most specific workarounds date from 2023, so treat each one as conditional on your situation.
What the evidence establishes
- Pathea’s crash announcement dated November 4, 2023, reproduced on SteamDB, asks players to verify the integrity of the game in Steam if crashes continue. It also gives a route for sending crash files to the developer’s QA team. This is historical guidance, and it does not show how common the crash is today. See the SteamDB record of the announcement.
- A Pathea-authored Steam discussion titled “Known Issues and Workarounds,” also from November 2023, describes renaming a DLL file and removing mod plugins as workarounds for certain crashes. These are specific older steps. The sources do not confirm that they apply to the current build. See the Steam discussion.
- Steam’s support page lists minimum and recommended PC specifications, recommends installing the game on an SSD, and notes that requirements may change. See Steam’s My Time at Sandrock support page.
- No published study or figure measures how often Sandrock crashes on PC, and no source compares which fix works best. Steam review totals and discussion thread counts are not crash statistics.
Record these details before changing any files
Changing files without notes makes it hard to tell whether a change helped. Write down the following before you start:
- Crash timing: launch, the main menu, loading a save, a specific location, combat, or random play.
- Game version: shown in the game or in Steam’s game properties.
- PC hardware: Windows version, processor, installed RAM, graphics card, free space on the drive, and whether the game sits on an SSD or a hard drive.
- Mods: whether any are installed, and which ones.
- Error text: any message shown on screen or in a Windows error dialog, word for word.
The eight checks, in order
The order moves from reversible, developer-backed steps to changes that edit game files. It reflects reversibility and diagnostic value, not measured success. Work through the checks in order and stop when the crash is resolved.
1. Update the game
Pathea’s November 4, 2023 crash announcement asked players experiencing a crash to install the latest patch. Check that Steam has finished updating My Time at Sandrock, then test again. The announcement is dated 2023, so it does not show whether the current build has the same issue or a newer fix. Steam’s own update status is the authoritative check.

2. Verify the installed game files
Pathea’s announcement states: “If any players continue to experience game crashes, please first verify the integrity of the game in Steam.” To run the check in the Steam client:
- Open your Steam Library and right-click My Time at Sandrock.
- Select Properties, then open the Installed Files tab.
- Click Verify integrity of game files and wait for the scan to finish.
- Restart Steam and the game, then test the crash scenario you noted.
Menu wording can change between Steam updates, so match the option by meaning if the labels differ.

3. Compare your PC with Steam’s listed requirements
Steam’s support page lists the following requirements for My Time at Sandrock as checked for this article. Compare each row with your actual hardware. In Windows, Settings > System > About shows the processor and installed RAM, and Task Manager’s Performance tab shows the graphics card.
| Component | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10 | Windows 10 |
| Processor | Intel Core i3-2100 or AMD FX-6300 | Intel Core i7-9700K or AMD Ryzen 7 2700X |
| Memory | 8 GB RAM | 16 GB RAM |
| Graphics | Nvidia GeForce GTX 760 or AMD Radeon 7950 | Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 or AMD Radeon RX 580 |
| DirectX | DirectX 11 | DirectX 11 |
| Storage | 50 GB available | 50 GB available |
Steam also recommends installing the game on an SSD. The listed parts are baseline examples, not a compatibility list, so the table cannot confirm whether a card or processor it does not name will work. Meeting the requirements rules out one possible mismatch. It does not guarantee the game will run without crashing, and it cannot diagnose your specific PC.

4. If you use mods, test without them carefully
Pathea’s November 2023 discussion says mods contributed to certain crashes and suggests removing plugin files from the game’s BepInExplugins folder, then restarting. This does not mean every crash is caused by mods.
- Back up your save files before changing anything.
- Record your current mod list and check each mod’s documentation for known conflicts.
- Remove the plugin files from
BepInExplugins, restart the game, and repeat the crash scenario. - If the crash stops, add mods back one at a time to find the one responsible.
5. Treat DLL renaming as a dated, file-changing workaround
The same discussion describes a workaround for gameplay crashes. After running file verification, locate lib_burst_generated.dll in the game’s Sandrock_DataPluginsx86_64 folder, which sits inside the game’s install directory (by default under steamappscommon in your Steam library). Rename the file, save, and restart.

This changes game files, and the discussion dates from November 2023. The sources do not confirm that Pathea still endorses this step for the current build. Use it only after the earlier checks, back up the file first so you can restore it, and check current official support before trying it.

Because these paths come from a 2023 notice, confirm they still match the current build before relying on them. Logs and dumps can contain your Windows account name and file paths, so remove personal details before sharing them.
7. Contact official support with a concise report
Steam’s support page lists the support email as [email protected]. The November 2023 crash announcement directed crash dumps and crash-folder files to [email protected]. Check the current support listing before sending files to either address. In your message, include the notes you recorded earlier, the steps you have already tried, and whether you changed any game files or mods.
8. Consider storage only for a real setup need
Steam recommends installing the game on an SSD and lists 50 GB of available storage. If the game sits on a hard drive or your drive is nearly full, an internal SSD may be a worthwhile upgrade for performance and space. No source establishes that an SSD fixes crashes, so treat it as a general setup improvement, not a crash remedy.
