First determine whether your Aternos server will not start or whether it starts but players cannot join. Those are different problems: check the server status, then use the startup log or the exact connection error to choose the next step. There is no single fix that applies to every Aternos server.
Is the server failing to start, or failing to accept players?
Open the server page in Aternos and check its status. If it is marked Online, retry the connection and verify the address before changing server settings. Online is a useful prerequisite check, but it does not prove that every player’s client or network can reach the server. If the server moves from Starting to Stopping, treat it as a startup failure and inspect the log instead. Aternos’ connection guide and server-log guide explain these checks.
If the server will not start
Read the log and its automatic suggestions
Open the server log from the Aternos panel and look for ERROR-level lines, including the surrounding messages that explain what happened immediately before the failure. Aternos’ log page can also show automatic suggestions when it detects a known issue. Follow the suggestion that matches the error rather than changing unrelated settings. Aternos notes that many startup failures come from installed software, not the Aternos system itself. Its guidance calls the log “the best source to find this problem.” See Aternos’ instructions for server logs.
Check the storage-limit error
If the error indicates that the server is too large, storage may be the blocker: Aternos states that each server has a 4 GB storage limit and cannot start after exceeding it. This is an Aternos service limit, not a general Minecraft limit. Aternos suggests optimizing worlds or removing unused worlds, mods, plugins, or region files. Those actions can permanently delete world or server data, so make and verify a backup before removing anything. Aternos’ storage-limit article describes the limit and cleanup options.

If the server is online but you cannot join
Verify the current address and port
- Refresh the Aternos server page and confirm that the status still says Online.
- Use the address shown on that page, checking that it is entered correctly in the Minecraft client.
- If you play Bedrock Edition, enter the port manually in the server details; do not assume the address alone is enough.
- Retry the connection. Aternos says some initial connection failures are resolved by trying again.

Try DynIP if the regular address may be stale
Aternos runs servers on different machines, so the IP address and port associated with a domain can change. A client or DNS resolver that has cached old details may try to reach the wrong destination. Aternos provides a current DynIP as a direct alternative to the regular domain; it can help bypass stale domain resolution, but it changes each time the server starts, so fetch it again after a restart. Bedrock players still need to enter the port manually. Aternos explains how to find and use DynIP.

- Maximized wired connectivity and flexibility with dual 10G ports and quad 2.5G ports
- Triple-Level Game Acceleration - The GT-BE98 Pro boosts your PC gaming traffic every step of the way, from your PC gaming port all the way to the game server.
Consider DNS only when the symptoms point to it
If the regular domain appears to resolve to old server details, flushing your device’s DNS cache may clear the stale entry temporarily. Aternos also describes changing DNS providers as a longer-term option. Neither step fixes every connection problem: first confirm the server is online and its current address is correct. See Aternos’ connection troubleshooting guidance.
Match the error to the likely cause
“Invalid Session,” “Invalid Token,” or “Failed to verify username”
These errors mean the server could not verify the account. If you use a premium Minecraft account, close all Minecraft-related game and launcher windows, reopen the launcher, and try again. If you recently changed your username, log out and back in before reconnecting. Aternos’ authentication-error article covers these messages.

TLauncher or a server-address lookup problem
Aternos recommends not using TLauncher. Its documentation says TLauncher can fail to resolve SRV records used by Aternos’ dynamic server setup. The documented workarounds are to enter the server address together with its port or use the current DynIP. These address workarounds address that lookup problem; they do not establish that every TLauncher connection failure has the same cause. Read Aternos’ TLauncher guidance.
“Unable to connect to world” or “Connection reset”
These phrases alone do not identify a single cause. First verify Online status, address, and—on Bedrock—the manually entered port. Retry, then use the current DynIP if domain resolution may be stale. If the problem persists, note whether it affects one player or everyone; that distinction helps narrow whether to investigate the client or server. Aternos lists these messages in its connection troubleshooting material.

Check server settings only when they fit the symptom
Whitelist
If only certain players are unable to join, check whether the whitelist is enabled and whether those players are listed. A whitelist permits only listed players. Changes to server options require a restart to take effect. Aternos’ connection guidance explains the relevant setting.
“Cracked” option
Do not toggle the “Cracked” option as a general connection fix. Aternos warns that changing it can affect operator and whitelist behavior as well as player data. Change it only when you understand the consequences and the setting fits the actual problem. Check Aternos’ guidance before changing server options.

What to include when asking Aternos for help
Report a reproducible problem rather than saying only “It didn’t work”—Aternos’ support guidance says that is not a valid description. Include the action you intended, what you tried, what happened, and the full, exact error message. For a startup failure, share the relevant log or its link. For a connection issue, include whether the server is Online, the Minecraft edition and client version, the server software and version, and whether the problem affects one player or multiple players. Aternos may request the relevant addresses and country, or ask whether the same failure occurs on Vanilla. See Aternos’ support-request guidance.
