Jagex removed its RuneScape Dragon Slayer II trailer after viewers pointed to apparent visual anomalies, including a knight with six fingers, and alleged that generative AI had been used. The company apologized and said it was investigating urgently. The visible oddities prompted the allegations, but do not by themselves establish how the trailer was made.
What happened at RuneFest 2026?
The Dragon Slayer II quest trailer was shown at RuneFest 2026. Viewers flagged a knight with six fingers and other imagery they considered inconsistent, including footwear described in coverage as resembling modern sneakers. Jagex removed the trailer after the concerns surfaced. PC Gamer and MMORPG.com reported the removal and response on October 5, 2026.
Why did viewers suspect generative AI?
The six-fingered hand was the clearest anomaly Jagex addressed; the company’s RuneScape community lead, Alec “Mod Sween” Sween, said it was “pretty hard to explain away.” The unusual details led viewers to question whether generative AI had been involved. They are visual observations, not independent confirmation of the production method.
What has Jagex said about the trailer’s production?
Jagex said the trailer was produced by a trusted external partner that had explicitly confirmed generative AI would not be used. The company has not named that partner in the cited coverage, and its account does not independently establish what methods were used in production.

Sween apologized for the trailer and said Jagex should have caught the issues rather than simply assigning blame elsewhere. The company said it was investigating urgently; the cited reports do not establish the investigation’s conclusion.
What is Jagex’s generative-AI policy?
Jagex stated: “Our position is clear at Jagex: we don’t use GenAI to create our games, artwork or creative assets, and will not knowingly allow it to be used on our behalf.” That is the company’s stated policy, not proof of how this particular trailer was produced.

What changes has Jagex announced?
Jagex said the trailer controversy was the second recent generative-AI concern involving trusted partners, following a separate concern tied to its 100 Thieves clothing collaboration. The company said the incidents exposed a failure in its own processes and that it was overhauling its review process.
Jagex also said it would work with and commission community creators to tell the Dragon Slayer II story to the standard expected for the update. The cited coverage gives no release date for a replacement trailer.
