Starting with Patch 26.20, published October 6, 2026, League of Legends replays are available only for matches you played. You can still download and watch your own replay in the League client, but you can no longer download another player’s replay, and third-party apps and sites lose replay-download access. Riot says the change is intended to address security vulnerabilities exploited to build unauthorized tools using League game data.
Why are League of Legends replays unavailable?
Riot changed who can access replay downloads in Patch 26.20, published October 6, 2026. Replay access is now limited to matches you personally played. That means a replay you used to find through another player’s profile or a third-party service may no longer be downloadable.
Riot links the change to security: its patch notes say restrictions on third-party access to game memory are meant to close vulnerabilities that cheat developers and others had exploited to build unauthorized tools around League game data. The change is about access to replay downloads, not the removal of all replay viewing.
Can you still watch your own League replay?
Yes. Riot says you can download and watch replays of your own matches directly through the League client. Use the client’s replay controls for a match you played; the exact controls and availability may depend on the current client and patch.

Why can’t you download someone else’s replay?
Under Patch 26.20, other players can no longer download a player’s replay. Third-party apps and sites also lose replay-download access. A tool that previously offered another player’s match therefore cannot serve as a workaround to the new rule.
Riot’s wider policy for third-party applications should not be confused with replay access. Its September 29, 2026 support article says unknown third-party applications will be blocked from game-memory access by default across Riot PC titles beginning October 6, 2026. Existing approved tools have a grace period until April 2027 to transition affected features to approved API mechanisms, request API data, or discontinue features without a good alternative. Riot does not promise that any specific app will remain functional. That transition period does not restore third-party downloads of other players’ replays.

What can you do instead?
Review a match you played
Download and watch your own replay from the League client. This is the replay use Riot expressly says remains available.
Keep or share footage
A replay file and a video recording are different things: the new access rule concerns replay downloads. Riot’s 2017 replay announcement described an in-client highlight tool that saved video files, but that is historical documentation, not confirmation of current recording or export controls. Check the controls available in your client and mode rather than assuming a particular recording workflow is still supported.

Check whether a third-party app still works
Look for a current status notice from the app’s developer. Riot recommends following developer updates and says it cannot guarantee any particular app’s continued functionality. The available official notices do not establish the current status of individual named tools.
Do League replays still expire after about 14 days?
That figure is not established as current policy. Riot’s Patch 14.6 notes from 2024 said replay storage would return to approximately 14 days after a temporary change that removed older saved replays earlier than usual. Patch 26.20 does not state a replay-retention period or explain how to recover old replays, so the 2024 note should not be treated as a current guarantee.

Does the Riot API still provide replay downloads?
Riot’s Patch 25.23 notes from 2025 announced direct replay access through the Riot API. Patch 26.20 later changed access and says third-party apps and sites lose replay-download access. The earlier announcement does not mean third-party downloads remain available under the current rule.
