Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →First check which OBS source is playing the playlist. If it is a VLC Video source and a scene change makes that source invisible, OBS’s documented default is to stop playback while hidden and restart it when visible. If playback instead stops at the end of the list, check Loop Playlist. If the source still plays in OBS but viewers lose the podcast, investigate audio routing and stream delivery instead. The cause cannot be confirmed without knowing your source type and what, exactly, stops.
Identify what is actually stopping
When the dropout happens, look at the source and the audio meter in OBS, and note whether the problem coincides with a scene change or the end of a playlist item. Then make a brief local recording while reproducing it. These checks help separate a source that has stopped from audio that is merely missing at the monitor or on YouTube.
- The source’s playback stops: Check the playlist, loop and visibility settings, and whether a scene transition hides the source.
- The source meter moves, but your speakers go quiet: The local monitoring path may be the problem; that alone does not show that the stream mix is silent.
- The local recording has the podcast, but YouTube viewers hear a dropout: Check what audio OBS routes to the encoder and what YouTube reports.
- The recording also loses the podcast: Start with the OBS source, media file, playlist and scene behavior.
A local recording is a useful diagnostic, but it is not proof that every output path is captured identically. If the checks do not settle it, note your OBS version, operating system, source type, scene changes, whether the meter moves, and what the recording captures.
Check the source type and its playback settings
VLC Video: the playlist-capable source
OBS distinguishes its VLC Video source, which can hold a playlist, from the regular Media Source, which handles an individual audio or video file. The VLC Video source depends on VLC being installed. OBS documents that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC; if VLC Video is missing from the source list or cannot be used, check that dependency.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
In the VLC Video source’s properties, check that the playlist entries are present and ordered as intended, and inspect these options:
- Loop Playlist: OBS documents this as On by default. Confirm it is enabled if playback should continue after the final item.
- Shuffle Playlist: Off by default. Check it if the items are playing in an unexpected order.
- Visibility Behaviour: The documented default is “Stop when not visible, restart when visible.” If a scene change hides the source, change this behavior if the playlist needs to continue while hidden.
These documented defaults apply to OBS’s VLC Video source; they should not be assumed to describe a third-party playlist plugin.

Media Source: a single file
If you are using the regular Media Source, verify that it points to the intended local file and that its Loop property matches the behavior you want. The playlist and visibility checks above apply to VLC Video, not automatically to a single-file Media Source.
Use a local recording to separate playback from delivery
- Reproduce the issue in OBS. Watch the source’s playback state and audio meter at the moment it occurs. Note whether it happens at the end of an item or during a scene change.
- Record locally while reproducing it. Play back the recording and check whether the podcast is present through the dropout.
- If the recording also drops the audio, return to the OBS source settings, playlist or media file, and scene behavior. A scene that hides a VLC Video source is a specific setting to test before treating the symptom as a connection failure.
- If the recording is intact but YouTube viewers hear silence, check that the intended audio source is routed to the stream encoder. Inspect OBS’s encoder output and YouTube’s live dashboard for encoder errors.
YouTube’s encoder troubleshooting guidance recommends using the latest encoder version, inspecting the encoder output, and checking whether audio and video sources are routed properly. If the local encoder output is also bad, check encoder errors, CPU load and the local archive. If it looks and sounds healthy, YouTube says there may be an outbound internet connection issue and recommends testing the connection.

Distinguish dropped frames from a playlist stopping
OBS describes dropped frames as a sign that the connection to the remote server is unstable or cannot sustain the configured bitrate. OBS may drop frames to avoid buffering and keep the stream playing. That guidance concerns delivery to the server; it does not establish why a local playlist source stopped. A connection test is most relevant when OBS’s local output remains healthy but delivery to YouTube does not.

If your goal is to keep uploaded podcast videos playing as a 24/7 YouTube stream, rather than diagnose an OBS source, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed.
