Chris Hansen is investigating Roblox in Dangerous Games: Investigating Roblox — A Chris Hansen Special, a documentary distributed exclusively by TruBlu and announced for a February 27, 2026 premiere. The film treats Roblox as a starting point for a wider look at predators on online platforms. It arrives during a public fight over vigilante groups that Roblox removed from its platform, and while state and federal officials are examining how the company handles child-exploitation reporting.

What is established is narrower than the headlines suggest. The documentary’s focus is clear, Roblox has given a specific reason for its actions against vigilantes, and officials have opened inquiries. None of those steps is a finding that Roblox is legally liable for harm to children.

What the Hansen special is

TruBlu’s program page describes the film as Hansen investigating predators on online platforms, “starting with Roblox.” The distributor’s February 25, 2026 announcement said the Roblox-focused special would premiere on February 27, 2026, exclusively on TruBlu. The page’s line that “Chris Hansen digs deep with this hard-hitting investigation exploring various platforms, starting with Roblox” is promotional copy written by the distributor, not a statement from Hansen.

No verified statement from Hansen explaining his personal reason for taking on Roblox is available in the sources used for this article, so none is reported here. The specific allegations and scenes in the film are the filmmakers’ claims. This article does not independently verify them.

Why Roblox, and why now

The attention grew out of the Roblox–Schlep dispute. In an August 2025 statement, Roblox said it removed vigilantes because some had begun impersonating children and actively seeking adults. In the company’s words: “Instead of just reporting on safety issues, vigilantes started impersonating children and actively sought to connect with adult users.”

Roblox’s stated reasoning is that this activity could place users at risk and interfere with its safety systems and established processes. That is the company’s explanation. Critics and creators involved in the dispute have a different account of their own actions, and the sources used here do not settle which account is accurate.

Roblox’s stated safeguards

Roblox’s public position is that its own safety systems and official channels should handle serious abuse reports, not individuals acting outside them. The company describes the following measures, all as its own descriptions of its processes.

In-platform reporting and trusted flaggers

Users can report inappropriate behavior inside the platform. Roblox says trusted flaggers can submit reports of serious criminal activity for priority review. The company does not publish, in the material reviewed, figures showing how often priority reports led to a removal or referral.

Law enforcement and cross-platform sharing

Roblox says it works with law enforcement, subject to official legal process, and shares information with other platforms and authorities. Its August 2025 descriptions of these relationships do not include case outcomes, so they show how the process is designed rather than how well it performs.

Sentinel

Roblox describes Sentinel as an AI system intended to identify early signals of potential child endangerment and to escalate cases for deeper human review. The company reported that Sentinel helped submit approximately 1,200 reports of potential attempts to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) during the first half of 2025. That figure counts submissions. It does not show how many were accurate or what followed.

Age checks in chat

Roblox’s 2025 annual filing states that it began requiring mandatory age-check systems in chat-enabled regions in January 2026. This is the company’s stated implementation. The filing does not, in the material reviewed, report how many users completed checks or how accurate the results were.

Reading the numbers

Several figures are circulating, and they measure different things. Keep the publisher and the measure attached to each one.

Figure Publisher and date Period covered What it measures What it does not establish
More than 65,000 suspected child-exploitation reports U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary announcement, August 2026 2025 Suspected exploitation reports Roblox submitted to NCMEC Confirmed offenses or victims
Approximately 1,200 reports of potential attempts Roblox, August 2025 First half of 2025 Reports Sentinel helped submit to NCMEC, as the company reported them Substantiated cases, accuracy of reports, or outcomes
64% of the user base was 13 or older Roblox’s statement responding to the Louisiana lawsuit; the date is not stated in the available source Not stated Share of users in that age group, as Roblox states it Not stated; no independent audit is reported in the available source

A report submitted to NCMEC is a flag for review, not a verdict. Numbers of reports rise or fall for many reasons, including how aggressively a platform reports and how many users it has, so a larger count does not by itself show a more dangerous platform.

Government and legal scrutiny

Connecticut Attorney General

The Connecticut Attorney General announced an investigation of Roblox over concerns about harm to children in 2026. The announcement is not a judgment on those concerns, and the available source does not give a month or describe the investigation’s scope beyond that.

Congressional oversight

A U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary announcement from August 2026 described congressional oversight of how online platforms report child exploitation to NCMEC. It cited the 65,000-plus figure above. Oversight of this kind is a process of inquiry; it does not establish wrongdoing by any named company.

Louisiana lawsuit

Roblox has responded publicly to litigation in Louisiana. In that statement, it described its safety features as rigorous and gave the 64% age figure. These are company assertions made in a legal dispute. They are not independently audited conclusions, and any court outcome is not reported in the available source.

Statements, metrics and findings are different things

Coverage of this story often blends four kinds of material. The table below separates them.

Type of material Examples in this story How much weight it carries
Distributor or promotional copy TruBlu’s program page and premiere announcement Confirms the film’s existence and framing; does not verify its claims
Company statements Roblox’s August 2025 vigilante statement, its safeguard descriptions, and its Louisiana response Shows what Roblox says it does and why; attribute each claim to Roblox
Company-reported metrics Sentinel’s approximately 1,200 submissions and the 2025 filing’s age-check details Describes activity; does not show accuracy or effectiveness
Government announcements Connecticut investigation; Senate Judiciary oversight Shows that inquiries exist; does not establish liability

What remains unsettled

  • Whether the film’s specific allegations hold up under independent scrutiny.
  • How many of Sentinel’s reports were accurate, and what action followed each one.
  • Whether the age-check systems reduce contact between minors and adults, and at what cost to legitimate users.
  • What the Connecticut investigation and the congressional inquiry find, and whether either leads to formal action.
  • How the Louisiana litigation is resolved.
