Why did the Warhammer 3 modder corrupt their own mod?
In a Patreon statement quoted by IGN, Venris said the change was intended to prevent the mod from functioning with unauthorized reuploads. Venris objected particularly to what they described as the use of AI in producing those uploads. The report describes the reuploads and their alleged AI use through Venris’s account; the coverage reviewed does not independently verify who made them, what they contained, or whether permission was sought. IGN’s report was syndicated by Yahoo.

Venris framed the dispute as a question of creator permission and respect for the work, writing: “Support modders, not AI.” The statement also said that when an update was ready, it would be released on Steam, not elsewhere. Rock Paper Shotgun’s contemporaneous coverage likewise reported that position. What is SFO: Grimhammer III?
SFO is a free-to-access total overhaul for Total War: WARHAMMER III. Its Steam Workshop description says it changes both campaign and battle content to make the game feel closer to the Warhammer universe, while prioritizing fun. The creators describe it as a different experience from the vanilla game, not necessarily a better one. The listing says no other mods or DLC are required. Is SFO: Grimhammer III going private?
Venris reportedly said, “If this situation continues to escalate, I will make SFO: Grimhammer III private.” That is a conditional warning, not an announcement that the Workshop item has been withdrawn. The listing currently labels the mod “UPDATE IN PROGRESS,” but that status alone does not establish that it is private or indicate compatibility with every current game build.

How to check the official mod and its update status

Open the SFO: Grimhammer III Workshop page and check that you are viewing the creator’s listing rather than a reupload.

Read the listing’s current status and release history. It records “15.07.2026 – 1.5.5 Call of Bretonnia release!” and displays “UPDATE IN PROGRESS.” These are Steam page details, not a guarantee that the release supports your installed game version.

Compare the mod’s stated update information with your game version before enabling it. Compatibility can change after game patches, so an older copy or cached claim may not describe the current listing.
How to support the modders
The Workshop description says SFO is free to access and welcomes voluntary support. Venris’s reported statement says ready updates would be released on Steam rather than paywalled. Use the official listing for access and its creator-provided support information; neither statement establishes that every third-party copy or AI-assisted derivative is authorized.
