What was V1 Interactive?
V1 Interactive was an independent game studio based in Redmond, in the Seattle area. Take-Two’s Private Division described the team as about 30 developers. GeekWire reported that around 30 employees were affected when the studio closed.
The studio was founded by Marcus Lehto, who had worked on the Halo franchise. V1 began work on Disintegration in 2015, according to GeekWire’s closure report.
What was Disintegration?
Disintegration was V1 Interactive’s first game. It combined first-person shooter combat with real-time strategy: players fought from a vehicle called a Gravcycle while issuing commands to a squad on the ground. The game launched digitally on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on June 16, 2020. Its launch-era price announced by the publisher was $49.99; that figure is not a current price.
At launch, Lehto described it as a game that would “challenge your perception of first-person shooters.” The Private Division launch announcement identified Lehto as V1’s president and game director. Xbox also outlined the game’s FPS/RTS approach in its June 2020 launch notice.
What happened to Disintegration after launch?
In September 2020, V1 and Private Division announced that they would remove the game’s multiplayer features in stages. They said the game had not attracted enough players to support a compelling multiplayer experience. Multiplayer modes were scheduled to be fully removed on November 17, 2020; the Game Developer report on the closure recounts the shutdown context.
The single-player campaign remained playable after the multiplayer removal, according to contemporaneous reporting. That does not establish the present-day status of every storefront, download, or platform service, so it should not be read as a guarantee that the game can currently be purchased or accessed on every platform.

V1 announced its closure on March 8, 2021, thanking its staff and the game’s community. In the studio’s statement, the V1 account said: “We are sad to inform you that V1 Interactive is officially closing.”

Lehto framed the timing around employee support. He said, “At V1, our priority has been to the wellbeing of our employees,” and explained that the studio had discussed its situation with employees for months so they would have time and support to seek other work. The available statements do not establish a specific financial cause for the closure. No attributable sales, revenue, or player-count figure was reported in the cited coverage; the stated problem with Disintegration concerned the audience for its multiplayer, not a documented sales result.
