YouTube’s published limit is 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key, applied at the same time; those limits prevent additional broadcasts from starting when reached. They do not establish a general cap on upcoming scheduled events. If Studio will not let you create another event, the exact error and action that fails matter.
First identify what YouTube is blocking
A scheduled broadcast is an upcoming event with its own page; an active stream is a broadcast currently being sent to YouTube. Attaching encoder settings and pressing Go Live are also distinct steps. A limit on active broadcasts should not be treated as proof that YouTube has rejected the creation of another future event.
- Cannot create another upcoming event: check the exact error and try the documented scheduling choices below. The official guidance cited here does not document a universal maximum number of upcoming events.
- Cannot start a broadcast: count active streams on the channel and streams using the same key. YouTube Help says the 10-per-channel and 3-per-key limits apply simultaneously.
- Cannot connect or go live at all: check channel eligibility and restrictions, as well as any daily live-stream limit message.
Schedule another event in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room.
- Choose Manage, then click Schedule stream.
- Choose Create new for a separate event, or Reuse settings if you want to carry over a prior stream’s metadata, settings, and stream key.
YouTube’s encoder workflow describes both options. A scheduled event gets a shareable page and lets viewers opt into reminders. Reusing a key is a documented workflow; YouTube does not say that every scheduled event needs its own unique key. See YouTube’s encoder scheduling guidance and live stream settings guidance.
Do scheduled events need separate stream keys?
Not necessarily. Google’s Live Streaming API separates the event itself (liveBroadcast) from the transmission settings (liveStream). Its recurring-event example schedules multiple broadcasts using the same stream settings when the encoder configuration is reused; that example has one event live at a time. The guide also describes creating one stream per broadcast for setups that need separate transmission settings. Choose based on whether the events use the same encoder configuration, not on an assumption that every event requires a new key. Google’s API guide to broadcasts and streams explains the distinction.

Check active-stream limits, eligibility, and error messages
When broadcasts overlap
YouTube Help states: “There is a limit of 10 active streams allowed per channel and 3 active streams per stream key. These limits are applied at the same time.” If either threshold is reached, additional streams cannot be started. Count the active broadcasts channel-wide and those using the specific key; meeting one limit does not override the other. YouTube’s live-streaming guidance covers these limits.
When the channel cannot stream
YouTube’s general live-streaming guidance says a channel needs verification and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Treat these as checks rather than a diagnosis: they may explain an inability to stream, but do not by themselves establish why a particular upcoming event cannot be created. The same guidance describes a horizontal/vertical dual-stream mode that shares a URL and live chat; that is two formats of one broadcast, not two independently scheduled events.

When YouTube reports a daily limit
If the message says Daily live stream limit achieved, follow YouTube’s error-specific guidance rather than assuming the active-stream concurrency limits are responsible. YouTube’s live-streaming error messages page covers that message.
Troubleshoot in this order
- Record the exact failed action. Note whether the failure occurs while creating the upcoming event, attaching encoder settings, or pressing Go Live.
- Copy the complete error text. A daily-limit message, an eligibility problem, and an active-stream limit point to different checks.
- If scheduling only, try the supported workflow. In Live Control Room → Manage → Schedule stream, select Create new or Reuse settings according to whether you need a separate event or the same encoder setup.
- If starting an overlapping broadcast, count concurrency. Check both the number of active streams on the channel and the number on the key you plan to use.
- If feeds need different transmission settings, assess separate stream resources. Changing hardware is not established as a fix for event-scheduling or account-limit failures.
- For an account-specific diagnosis, gather the error, triggering action, overlap status, active-broadcast count, and whether the key is shared. Without those details, the cause cannot be determined from the documented limits alone.
