Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIf a monitor rated for 200Hz is running at 60Hz, Windows may have selected 60Hz, the monitor may require a model-specific setting or input, or something in the connection path may be limiting the available modes. Start in Windows Advanced display, then check the monitor’s manual and on-screen menu, the full cable path, your GPU settings, and drivers. The exact fix depends on the monitor, graphics card, resolution, and connections.
1. Check the selected refresh rate in Windows
- Open Settings > System > Display > Advanced display.
- If you have multiple screens, select the 200Hz monitor in the display selector.
- Check the current resolution and refresh rate. Open Choose a refresh rate and select 200Hz if it is available.
Windows only lists modes exposed by the display and the current connection setup; as Microsoft explains, “The refresh rates that appear depend on your display and what it supports” (Microsoft’s Windows refresh-rate instructions). If 200Hz is missing, the current setup is not presenting it as a selectable mode. Continue through the checks below rather than forcing an arbitrary custom timing.
Resolution can affect the available rates. Windows marks refresh rates that do not support the current resolution with an asterisk, and selecting one changes the resolution. After changing the rate, check that the resolution is still the one you want and that the combination is supported by the monitor.
2. Check the monitor’s manual and on-screen menu
Look in the monitor’s manual and on-screen display (OSD) for options such as overclocking, maximum refresh rate, or high refresh. Names and requirements vary by model; an advertised maximum may require enabling a setting, using a particular input, or choosing a specific color mode.

One model-specific example: ASUS ROG Swift PG35V Series
The PG35V Series manual describes a “Max Refresh Rate 200 Hz” option for DisplayPort only. Its instructions say to activate the OSD control twice, reboot, and then enable the rate in NVIDIA Control Panel. The manual also limits this mode to YUV422 or RGB/YUV444 at 8-bit color depth or below. These instructions and restrictions apply to that product family, not to every 200Hz monitor. If its screen goes blank after enabling the mode, the manual advises disconnecting the DisplayPort cable and retrying with a safer maximum refresh rate through the OSD (ASUS PG35V Series manual).
3. Isolate the cable and connection path
The signal path includes more than the cable: a dock, adapter, KVM switch, or converter can also affect which modes are available. Check it methodically before buying replacement hardware.

- Quality Visuals: The KG251Q 24.5" monitor with 1920 x 1080 Full HD resolution in a 16:9 aspect ratio presents stunning, high-quality images with excellent detail. The zero-frame design does away with the thick frames found on conventional monitors freeing up precious screen space.
- AMD FreeSync Premium Technology: Say “goodbye” to stuttering and tearing. With AMD FreeSync Premium, the monitor’s frames are synced with the graphics card’s frames, which eliminates screen tearing and provides the smoothest gaming experience.
- 200Hz Refresh Rate: The 200Hz refresh rate speeds up the frames per second to deliver an ultra-smooth 2D motion scene. With a rapid refresh rate of 200Hz, Acer Monitors shorten the time it takes for frame rendering, lower input lag and provide gamers an excellent in-game experience.
- Responsive!!: Up to 0.5ms GTG (Gray to Gray) response time enhanced gamers’ in-game experience. No matter if the fast-moving action or any dramatic transitions will be rendered smoothly without the annoying effects of smearing or ghosting with KG251Q Gaming Monitor
- ZeroFrame Design: With a Nitro KG251Q monitor, you’ll want to see as much of the display as possible. Get more real estate with the near bezel-less design, allowing you to see more and do more. The ZeroFrame design lets you place multiple monitors next to each other for a seamless, almost uninterrupted view.
- Make sure the cable is firmly connected at both ends.
- If practical, connect the monitor directly to the computer, temporarily bypassing docks, adapters, KVMs, or converters.
- Try another known-good cable, video output, or computer if available. You can also test a different display with the current computer to narrow down which part of the setup is involved.
These are among Microsoft’s recommended external-display troubleshooting steps (Microsoft’s external-monitor troubleshooting guide). Do not assume a particular cable type is universally required: the suitable input and bandwidth depend on the monitor, graphics card, resolution, color depth, and any devices in between. The ASUS example above establishes a DisplayPort requirement only for that monitor’s documented 200Hz mode.
4. Check the graphics-card settings
NVIDIA
Open NVIDIA Control Panel > Display > Change resolution, select the monitor, and check the available refresh rates. NVIDIA’s guide also shows the connector it detects for a display and notes that bandwidth limits can affect which color-depth options are available (NVIDIA Control Panel help).

AMD
AMD documents this route: right-click the desktop and open Display Settings > Advanced Display Settings > Display Adapter Properties > Monitor. Use Screen Refresh Rate to choose an available rate, and consult the monitor maker’s documentation for supported modes (AMD display and refresh-rate instructions).
5. Consider drivers if the mode disappeared
If 200Hz used to be available and vanished after an update or a setup change, investigate the graphics driver. Microsoft lists restarting the computer, resetting the graphics driver with Windows key + Ctrl + Shift + B, rolling back a driver, or reinstalling it as troubleshooting options. Follow the current instructions from your GPU manufacturer when reinstalling. A driver check is one diagnostic step; it does not by itself establish that the driver caused the problem (Microsoft’s external-monitor troubleshooting guide).

6. Confirm the setting—and distinguish it from game FPS
Return to Settings > System > Display > Advanced display and confirm the selected monitor, resolution, and current refresh rate. That report shows the refresh rate selected for the display; it does not establish how many frames a game is rendering. For game performance, check the game’s own frame-rate counter or a GPU utility.
What to check before changing hardware
There is no universal cable or port fix for every 200Hz monitor. Compare the exact monitor input and its supported resolution-and-refresh combinations with the GPU output, color-depth requirements, any intermediary devices, and any OSD setting required by the monitor’s manual. Without the monitor model and the rest of the connection details, a specific replacement cable, adapter, GPU, or monitor cannot be justified.
