That was not a promise that the full game would be free to everyone. Separately, Restored Land is a free update for people who own The Beast—not a free copy of the game.
Who gets Dying Light: The Beast for free?
In an announcement dated August 20, 2024, Techland said: “Dying Light: The Beast will be available for no extra charge for owners of the Ultimate Edition of Dying Light 2 Stay Human.” Techland’s announcement ties the offer to that edition, not to every owner of Dying Light 2.
The announcement reviewed does not state a purchase cutoff date or explain whether acquiring Dying Light 2: Stay Human Ultimate Edition later qualifies. It therefore supports the original offer’s stated eligibility, but does not establish that buying the edition now will grant The Beast. Check the entitlement shown on the platform account you used for the qualifying edition rather than assuming the offer applies to all players.
Is Restored Land free?
Yes. Techland describes Restored Land as a major free update for existing owners of Dying Light: The Beast. Its update announcement says players who own the Standard Edition automatically receive a free upgrade to Restored Land Edition. The current official FAQ says new purchasers receive the update as part of all available editions.

That means existing owners do not need to buy the update, while new players still need to acquire the game. The update changes the survival rules: defeated infected and looted items do not respawn, supplies and shop stock are reduced, and some activities can be completed only once. Players can also optionally enable a One Life rule.
What editions and platforms are currently listed?
Dying Light: The Beast launched September 18, 2025, for PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X|S. Techland’s current FAQ lists these editions:

| Deluxe | Base content, the Castor Woods Prepper Bundle, and digital bonuses including the soundtrack, wallpapers, and tourist map. |
| RL Definitive | The preceding content plus Action Hero Essentials, Hunter Essentials, Fire Lotus Pack, and Discharge Pack. |

Techland estimates the main story at around 20–40 hours; its game page describes 40+ hours of survival-adventure gameplay. Those are the publisher’s estimates and description, not independent playtime measurements.
