Sony’s new Quick Spectral Super Resolution (QSSR) could be relevant to GTA VI, but it has not confirmed that Rockstar’s game will use it. Announced for standard PS5 on October 1, 2026, QSSR is intended to improve image detail and stability; Sony’s first named games are Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei, not GTA VI.
What QSSR does on PS5
Sony describes Quick Spectral Super Resolution as a new tier of AI upscaling for PS5, developed from Project Amethyst, its graphics collaboration with AMD. The company says QSSR combines a streamlined neural-network architecture with an implementation tuned for PS5 performance, aiming to improve image detail and stability. These are Sony’s descriptions, not independent test results. Sony’s QSSR announcement characterizes it as a lower performance tier than PSSR, which Sony calls the “gold standard” on PS5 Pro.
The first named QSSR games are Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei, which Sony said would receive patches offering QSSR as an additional graphics option on PS5 on October 1. Sony also said the library would be offered broadly to PlayStation developers. That makes QSSR available as a potential tool; it does not mean every game will adopt it.
Is QSSR confirmed for GTA VI?
No. Sony’s announcement does not name GTA VI, and the official material reviewed does not confirm that Rockstar will implement QSSR. The feature may be a plausible fit for a visually demanding game, but that is speculation—not a compatibility announcement.

Sony lists GTA VI for PS5 and PS5 Pro, with a November 19, 2026 release date, and says it will not be playable on PS4. Rockstar’s extended look, dated August 27, 2026, is described as captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5. What Sony has confirmed about the PS5 experience
Sony’s GTA VI feature announcement highlights DualSense haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, effects through the controller speaker, Tempest 3D AudioTech, and the PS5’s high-speed SSD for near-instant loading. These are the features Sony explicitly associates with the PS5 version; they are not evidence that GTA VI uses QSSR. A title-level confirmation from Rockstar or Sony would establish whether QSSR is coming to GTA VI. Until then, no official GTA VI-specific QSSR implementation details, resolution or frame-rate targets, or console-to-console comparison are established by the sources cited here.
