Windows 11 version 24H2 was a meaningful step forward for gaming on Arm PCs, but it did not make every Windows game compatible. Microsoft’s Prism translation layer can run many traditional x86 and x64 games on Arm64 hardware, while support for BattlEye, Denuvo Anti-Cheat, and Wellbia’s XIGNCODE3/UNCHEATER removes a major barrier for multiplayer titles.
The important qualification is that provider support is not the same as universal game support. Each publisher still has to enable and validate compatibility, and launchers, DRM, drivers, graphics performance, and game-specific bugs can still prevent a title from working.
The short version
In its June 19, 2024 announcement, Microsoft presented Windows 11 24H2 as a substantial improvement for gaming on Windows on Arm. The update’s main pieces were:

Microsoft associated BattlEye support with Windows 11 24H2 build 26100.863. That build reference describes the original 2024 rollout, not necessarily the current Windows 11 build.

The result was not x64 gaming parity. It was a move from “many games are blocked by the platform” toward “a growing number of games may work, but you must check each title.”
What Prism does for PC games
Most existing Windows PC games were compiled for x86 or x64 processors. Arm PCs use the Arm64 instruction set instead. Prism translates x86 and x64 code so it can execute on Arm hardware without requiring developers to immediately rebuild every older game for Arm.
For the player, this process is intended to be largely transparent. A game can often be installed and launched like another Windows application. However, Prism is translation or emulation, not native Arm execution. Its success depends on what the game does and how efficiently the translated code runs.
CPU-heavy games may lose performance compared with an equivalent native build. Older launchers, unusual middleware, DRM components, game-specific drivers, and software that expects particular processor features can also cause problems. A game opening successfully proves compatibility at the launch level; it does not guarantee stable frame rates, low latency, or a good laptop gaming experience.
Microsoft highlighted Baldur’s Gate 3 running through Prism on a Qualcomm Snapdragon X-based PC. That demonstration showed that a major x64 game could run on the platform. It did not establish a universal frame-rate target, battery-life result, or performance level across every Snapdragon X model.
Why BattlEye support matters
Anti-cheat software has been one of the biggest obstacles to Windows on Arm gaming. Modern anti-cheat tools can use low-level components that are architecture-sensitive, interact closely with the operating system, or require platform support beyond simply translating a game’s main executable.

That means a game could otherwise run under Prism yet refuse to launch when its anti-cheat system initialized. Microsoft’s 2024 announcement named three anti-cheat platforms supporting Windows on Arm:
- BattlEye
- Denuvo Anti-Cheat
- Wellbia XIGNCODE3/UNCHEATER
Microsoft demonstrated Rainbow Six Siege with BattlEye on Windows on Arm. For competitive players, this was more significant than a single-player compatibility demo because anti-cheat failures had historically ruled out many online games before performance could even be evaluated.
Still, this is provider-level support, not a guarantee that every game using one of these systems works. The publisher may need to activate, configure, test, and maintain Arm compatibility for its own title. A game can also fail because of its launcher, DRM, graphics code, peripheral software, or another driver.
AutoSR is separate from Prism and anti-cheat
AutoSR is another Windows gaming feature associated with Arm Copilot+ PCs, but it solves a different problem. It uses machine learning to upscale a game rendered at a lower resolution, potentially improving image sharpness and frame rates in supported scenarios.
Microsoft describes AutoSR as an operating-system-level feature that can work with supported DirectX games without requiring individual developer integration. On Arm Copilot+ hardware, the device’s neural processing unit is part of the feature’s design.
AutoSR does not make a game compatible with Arm, and it cannot replace a faster GPU. It also requires compatible hardware, drivers, Windows software, and game conditions. Upscaling may introduce image artifacts, particularly around fine details or fast-moving objects. Readers should check Microsoft’s current supported-game list and activation requirements because those details can change.

What changed after the original 2024 announcement?
The June 2024 announcement should not be confused with later improvements to Windows on Arm gaming.
In a December 2025 recap, Microsoft said Prism had gained support for x86 AVX and AVX2 extensions. That expanded compatibility for games and applications that use those processor instructions, so older coverage describing Prism’s limitations may not reflect the later platform state.
Microsoft also said Easy Anti-Cheat later joined BattlEye, Denuvo Anti-Cheat, and XIGNCODE3 in supporting Windows on Arm, following work involving Epic, Qualcomm, and Microsoft. This still does not mean every Easy Anti-Cheat game is automatically supported: the publisher’s implementation and the current game build remain important.

Microsoft further reported that the Xbox PC app began enabling local installation and play for supported titles on Arm Insider devices in August 2025. Local installation is different from cloud streaming, and Insider availability should not be treated as universal stable-channel availability without checking the current rollout.

When evaluating a game on an Arm PC, separate these levels:
- Launches: The game opens and reaches its menu.
- Playable: It delivers acceptable frame rates and frame-time behavior for the player.
- Officially supported: The publisher or relevant technology provider recognizes the configuration.
- Competitive-ready: Multiplayer, anti-cheat, updates, matchmaking, peripherals, and performance work reliably.
Microsoft’s announcement primarily addressed the translation and anti-cheat layers. It did not prove level-four support for every game.

The compatibility stack to check

| Launcher and DRM | Do sign-in, licensing, updates, and copy-protection components work? |
| Drivers | Does the game require an incompatible kernel-mode driver or peripheral? |
| Publisher policy | Has the developer tested or officially enabled Arm support? |
| Performance | Are frame rates, stutter, thermals, and battery life acceptable? |
How to check an Arm gaming setup
- Open Settings → System → About and confirm that the system type is Arm64.
- Run
winverto record the installed Windows version and build. - Install current Windows updates and graphics drivers.
- Check the game publisher’s support page, not only the anti-cheat provider’s general compatibility announcement.
- Test launching, sign-in, anti-cheat initialization, multiplayer matchmaking, controller and headset support, shader compilation, sleep/resume, and game updates.
If a title fails, identify the likely layer: Prism, anti-cheat, the launcher, DRM, a graphics driver, or an unsupported peripheral. A general statement that Windows on Arm supports a technology cannot identify the cause for an individual game.

An Arm Copilot+ PC can make sense for someone who values portability, battery-life potential, quiet operation, and a selected library of supported games. Prism provides access to a much broader catalog than native Arm software alone, while anti-cheat support removes an important historical limitation.
It is a weaker choice for buyers whose priority is maximum AAA performance, broad legacy compatibility, competitive gaming certainty, extensive modding, specialized peripherals, or the highest-end discrete-GPU performance. Conventional Intel or AMD gaming laptops and desktops remain the safer option for those needs.
Xbox Game Pass may expand the value of an Arm device, but a subscription does not override local compatibility problems. Readers should distinguish between a game that installs locally, one available through cloud streaming, and one unavailable on the target device.
Do not use older assumptions about specific games such as Fortnite without checking the current game build and publisher support. Likewise, do not treat Microsoft’s later Easy Anti-Cheat or AVX2 announcements as evidence that every title using those technologies now works.

Windows 11 24H2 made gaming on Arm PCs substantially more credible. Prism opened access to many x86 and x64 games, and BattlEye plus other anti-cheat support addressed a major reason multiplayer titles previously failed before launch. Later AVX/AVX2, Easy Anti-Cheat, and Xbox app improvements strengthened that progress.
But Arm gaming is still title-by-title rather than guaranteed platform-wide compatibility. Treat Microsoft’s demonstrations as evidence that the technology works, not as benchmarks or promises for every game. For casual and portable gaming, an Arm PC may now be viable; for maximum compatibility and competitive certainty, x64 gaming hardware remains the safer purchase.
