Windows 11 crossed 70% of Steam users in June 2026, reaching 70.44%. Valve’s September 2026 survey puts Windows 11 at 71.34% of combined Steam users; in the separate Windows-only view, it accounts for 75.08%.
How many Steam users are on Windows 11?
Valve’s September 2026 Steam Hardware & Software Survey reports that Windows 11 64-bit represented 71.34% of combined Steam users, up 0.37 percentage points from the previous month. That combined figure includes users across Windows, Linux and macOS.
The denominator changes when the survey is viewed by operating system: among Windows-only Steam users, Windows 11 represented 75.08% in September. These figures answer different questions and should not be compared as if they shared the same base.
When did Windows 11 pass 70% on Steam?
Windows 11 reached 70.44% of combined Steam users in June 2026, the first time it crossed the 70% threshold in the cited reporting. Windows Central reported the milestone on July 2, 2026, based on Valve’s June survey. The September reading shows the share continuing above that threshold.

What the Steam figures do—and do not—show
Valve describes participation in the survey as optional and anonymous. The percentages therefore describe participating Steam customers, not every PC gamer or every PC in use. They are useful for tracking the operating systems represented on Steam, but should not be treated as a census of the wider PC gaming market.

The survey reports operating-system distribution and month-to-month change; it does not establish why an individual user upgraded. Windows 10’s approaching end of support has been discussed as context for migration, but the cited figures do not measure how much that deadline caused Windows 11 adoption.
