Wirecast desktop is available as a no-time-limit, no-credit-card trial, but Telestream’s public pages do not specify whether that trial adds a watermark or list every trial restriction. Telestream lists Wirecast Studio at $599 and Wirecast Pro at $799; both include YouTube as a built-in destination and list unlimited destinations. The paid tiers differ mainly in production features, not in a documented YouTube streaming allowance. YouTube’s account eligibility and stream limits apply whichever Wirecast edition you use.
Is Wirecast free for YouTube streaming?
Telestream describes Wirecast desktop as a “Fully functional trial with no time limit and no credit card required!” It does not present a separate free desktop edition in the product material reviewed. The trial description also does not expressly settle whether trial output has a watermark, or enumerate all trial-specific limitations. If watermark-free output or a particular feature is essential, confirm it with Telestream before relying on the trial.
The trial is a way to evaluate Wirecast, not an exemption from YouTube’s requirements. You still need an eligible channel and must follow YouTube’s live-stream operating limits.
Wirecast Studio vs. Wirecast Pro
Telestream’s comparison page lists these desktop editions and prices. The page’s listed prices were accessed in 2026; it does not supply a publication year, and pricing can change. Check the current Wirecast Product Comparison before buying.

Choose Studio if
- Your show does not need more than two simultaneous Rendezvous guests.
- You do not need Pro-listed features such as instant replay or virtual sets.
- You want YouTube output and the other shared capabilities listed for Studio. The comparison does not show a Studio-specific YouTube destination cap.
Choose Pro if
- You need up to seven simultaneous Rendezvous guests rather than Studio’s two.
- Your production relies on Pro-listed capabilities, such as instant replay, virtual sets, PTZ control, or additional audio features. Check the current matrix to confirm the exact feature and edition.
On the published comparison, both editions include YouTube and unlimited destinations. It does not document a Pro-only YouTube streaming unlock, so the decision is better framed around production needs than an assumed difference in YouTube output limits.
Wirecast Go is a separate iPhone app
Do not confuse Wirecast Go’s free feature set with the desktop trial. Telestream’s Wirecast Go page describes a free iPhone app version that can stream directly to YouTube, use one camera, add images, logos, and graphics, switch between two shots, and stream without a duration limit. The same page lists a $5.99 in-app upgrade for streaming to any RTMP destination, replay highlights, unlimited shots, and private or unlisted YouTube broadcasts. These are the features and price listed on Telestream’s page; check the current app listing for device and iOS compatibility because the page’s platform details may be dated. YouTube eligibility still applies.

YouTube eligibility applies to every Wirecast edition
YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days. Its current getting-started guidance also says streamers must be at least 16. A Wirecast purchase cannot remove a channel restriction or bypass YouTube eligibility. Review YouTube’s live streaming tips and Get started with live streaming for the current platform rules.

Concurrent streams
YouTube’s getting-started page lists a maximum of 10 active streams per channel and three active streams per stream key; both limits apply at once. These are YouTube platform limits, not Studio-versus-Pro licensing limits. If you reach either ceiling, changing Wirecast editions does not increase it.
Plan and check an encoder stream before going live
YouTube recommends building in time to configure, preview, and monitor an encoder stream. Its guidance is for encoder users generally, including people using Wirecast; follow the current Live Control Room instructions for your event.

- Set up at least two hours ahead. Confirm the broadcast is configured in YouTube and that your encoder is set to the intended event and destination.
- Start the encoder at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start. This gives you time to identify connection or configuration problems before viewers are waiting.
- Check the Live Control Room preview before starting the event. Confirm the intended video and audio are present and look right.
- Test failover where relevant. If your production has a backup path, check it before the event rather than assuming it will work during an interruption.
- Confirm the archive and monitor quality. Check that an archive is being created as expected and keep an eye on audio and video during the stream.
These are operational recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular internet connection, computer, or production will remain stable. YouTube’s detailed guidance is at YouTube live streaming tips.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which option fits your YouTube workflow?
- Evaluating desktop production: Start with the Wirecast desktop trial. Verify any critical trial details, especially watermark behavior, directly with Telestream because its public trial description does not specify them.
- Choosing a desktop license: Compare the current Studio and Pro feature matrix against your actual show. The clearest listed distinction is two versus seven simultaneous Rendezvous guests, plus Pro’s additional production features.
- Streaming from an iPhone: Consider Wirecast Go separately, and confirm current device compatibility and in-app terms in the app listing.
- Keeping uploaded videos playing continuously on YouTube: That is a different job from producing a camera-based live show in Wirecast. StreamNeo is a cloud service for looping uploaded videos on YouTube; it does not go live from a camera and is not a replacement for Wirecast’s production controls.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is a continuous YouTube stream from uploaded videos rather than a camera-led Wirecast production, StreamNeo works differently: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. The cloud keeps the loop running, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; it also automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. For this use case, start a trial at StreamNeo registration.
