Fix 1: Identify the program requesting wksole32.dll

Fix 8: Check drivers only when other applications also fail

A display, storage, or chipset driver is not the normal cause of a missing Works DLL. Driver troubleshooting becomes relevant only if Windows is also freezing, crashing, corrupting files, or failing to run other applications.

To check a driver manually:

1. Right-click the Start button.
2. Select Device Manager.
3. Expand a relevant category, such as Display adapters, Storage controllers, or System devices.
4. Right-click the device.
5. Select Properties.
6. Open the Driver tab.
7. Note the provider and date.
8. Select Update Driver.

For a rollback:

Do not remove a driver merely because its date looks old. For a legacy Works error, reinstalling Works remains the definitive repair.

Why random DLL downloads are unsafe

Do not download wksole32.dll from a random DLL repository and copy it into System32 or SysWOW64. That approach can fail because:

If conversion fails, obtain a legitimate Works installation source and use it in an isolated compatible environment. Install the program there, open the documents, and save them in a format supported by your current software.

Do not use an isolated DLL as a substitute for the Works installer. The surrounding program files and the legacy operating environment may be just as important as wksole32.dll.
