You may see messages such as “wlanradiomanager.dll is missing from your computer,” “The code execution cannot proceed because wlanradiomanager.dll was not found,” or “The specified module could not be found.” The message may also say that wlanradiomanager.dll is not designed to run on Windows or contains an error.
The 60-second answer
wlanradiomanager.dll is a genuine Microsoft Windows component used by the operating system’s radio-management infrastructure. Windows Radio Managers control radio devices such as WLAN, Bluetooth, and WWAN.
Do not treat it as a normal application runtime, and do not download a replacement from a random DLL website. The safest first repair is:
- Install pending Windows updates and restart.
- Open Command Prompt as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows and test again.
The file is normally associated with:
C:WindowsSystem32WlanRadioManager.dll
The exact file version, size, and architecture depend on the Windows build. A file with the same name in an application folder is not automatically genuine.

What wlanradiomanager.dll does
The name refers to the Windows WLAN radio manager. It is not the name of a separately installed consumer program, and there is no evidence that it belongs to Visual C++, DirectX, .NET, or a particular game.
Representative Windows file inventories describe it as:
- Description:
Wlan Radio Manager - Product: Microsoft Windows Operating System
- Company: Microsoft Corporation
- Typical location:
C:WindowsSystem32WlanRadioManager.dll
Those details can vary between Windows releases. Public file inventories are useful for identification, but Windows servicing and the file’s Microsoft digital signature are more reliable than a filename, icon, or reported size.
On 64-bit Windows, System32 contains native 64-bit system binaries. Thirty-two-bit system components are generally handled through SysWOW64. Do not copy a 32-bit DLL into System32, or a 64-bit DLL into an application directory, to guess your way past the error.

What the error actually means
The message does not always prove that the named file is missing.
“The specified module could not be found”
This can mean either that WlanRadioManager.dll is absent or that another DLL required by it cannot be loaded. Copying a file with the right name may therefore leave the real problem untouched.
“Not designed to run on Windows” or “contains an error”
This commonly points to a damaged file, an incompatible architecture, an incomplete update, or a file that was placed in the wrong directory. A 32-bit and 64-bit mismatch can produce this kind of loader error.

Fix 1: Update Windows, then repair protected files
This is the safest first fix when the file is missing from the Windows directory or several Windows features are malfunctioning.
Step 1: Install updates
- Right-click Start and select Settings.
- Open Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install all available updates.
- Restart, even if Windows does not immediately require it.
On Windows 10, the update controls are under Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
Step 2: Run DISM
- Right-click Start.
- Select Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin).
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for the operation to finish. Do not close the window while it is working.
DISM repairs the Windows component store, which is the source used to restore protected system files. It may use Windows Update as its repair source.
Step 3: Run System File Checker
In the same elevated window, run:
sfc /scannow
Wait until verification reaches 100 percent. Then restart Windows.

Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →A successful result usually says that Windows Resource Protection found no integrity violations, or that it found corrupt files and repaired them. Test the program or Windows feature that produced the error.
If you regularly repair machines by hand, the difficult part is often tracking what changed after repeated DISM and SFC runs. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for reported system problems and show what needs attention; its repair functions are available through the full version, while Windows’ built-in commands remain the appropriate no-cost repair path.
If DISM fails
If DISM says that source files could not be found:
- Confirm that Windows Update is working.
- Restart and try the DISM command again.
- If it still fails, use matching Windows installation media as a repair source.
- The source must correspond closely to the installed Windows edition, build, language, and architecture.
Microsoft’s DISM repair procedure documents the /Source and /LimitAccess options. Do not point DISM at an arbitrary ISO or an older Windows image.

Fix 2: Check Windows Security before restoring a quarantined file
Antivirus software can quarantine a system file because of corruption, tampering, or a false positive. It can also correctly detect a malicious file that merely uses the same name.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review any detection involving
WlanRadioManager.dll. - Note the full path and detection details.
- Do not select Allow on device or Restore automatically.
A genuine Windows copy should normally be in the Windows system directory and should carry a valid Microsoft signature. If the file was detected outside the Windows directory, treat it as suspicious until verified.
If a legitimate protected file was removed, repair Windows with DISM and SFC instead of downloading a replacement. If the detection appears malicious, run a complete Windows Security scan and consider Microsoft’s recovery options.
Fix 3: Verify the file’s path and digital signature
Use this check before copying, restoring, or replacing anything.
- Open File Explorer.
- Browse to the file’s full location.
- Right-click
WlanRadioManager.dll. - Select Properties.
- Open the Digital Signatures tab, if present.
- Select the signer and choose Details.
- Confirm that Windows reports a valid digital signature.
Also check the General and Details tabs for the file description and product information.

A copy in a game folder, temporary directory, Downloads folder, or an unfamiliar application directory may be unrelated to the Windows component. Fix 4: Repair or reinstall Windows 11 without deleting your files
If DISM and SFC do not restore the component, Windows 11 may offer a repair reinstall.

Fix 5: Reinstall the Wi-Fi driver only when the adapter is also failing
A wireless driver can cause WLAN symptoms, but reinstalling a Wi-Fi driver does not normally replace WlanRadioManager.dll. Use this fix when Wi-Fi is missing, disabled, unstable, or shown with an error in Device Manager.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Network adapters.
- Right-click the wireless adapter.
- Select Uninstall device.
- Confirm the uninstall. Do not select an option that removes driver software unless you already have the correct official driver.
- Restart Windows.
Windows will usually attempt to reinstall the adapter. If it does not, download the driver from the computer or wireless-adapter manufacturer’s official support page using another device if necessary.
Driver maintenance becomes tedious when several machines have different hardware revisions and outdated packages. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and identify driver issues, with driver installation handled by the full version; use it as an optional convenience, not as a replacement for repairing the Windows component itself.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Fix 6: Use System Restore or Windows recovery
Use recovery when the error began after a system change and normal servicing did not help.
System Restore
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select a restore point from before the error began.
- Review the affected programs and confirm the restore.
System Restore does not normally remove personal files, but it can remove drivers, updates, and applications installed after the selected restore point.
Windows recovery options
If Windows will not boot correctly:
- Open Settings > System > Recovery, or boot into the Windows recovery environment.
- Try Startup Repair where appropriate.
- Use System Restore if a suitable point exists.
- Use Reset this PC only after backing up important data and reviewing whether files and applications will be removed.
A clean installation should be the last resort.
Should you download wlanradiomanager.dll?
No. Random DLL download pages may provide malware, the wrong Windows build, the wrong architecture, or a file with no valid Microsoft signature. Manual copying can also create version mismatches and hide a damaged component store or missing dependency.

The safe sources are Windows Update, DISM, SFC, an in-place Windows repair installation, and official Windows recovery media. Do not copy a downloaded DLL into System32, SysWOW64, or an application directory.
Should you run regsvr32?
No. regsvr32 is not the appropriate repair for this file. The documented export information for WlanRadioManager.dll lists DllGetClassObject and DllCanUnloadNow, but not DllRegisterServer, which is the usual registration entry point used by regsvr32.
Running commands such as this is therefore not a supported solution:
regsvr32 WlanRadioManager.dll
Repair the Windows image instead.
Do you need Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET?
Not as a first step. wlanradiomanager.dll is a Windows component, not a verified Visual C++ Redistributable, DirectX, .NET, or game-runtime file. Reinstall those packages only when a specific application independently identifies one of them as missing.
FAQ
Is wlanradiomanager.dll legitimate?
Yes, the Windows component is legitimate and associated with Microsoft’s radio-management infrastructure. Verify the path and digital signature rather than trusting the filename alone.
Is it 32-bit or 64-bit?
That depends on the Windows build and the copy being examined. Windows 8 and 8.1 inventories include 32-bit listings, while Windows 10 inventories include 64-bit examples. Do not use an old listing as a universal replacement.
Why is the file not in System32?
It may have been removed or corrupted, the installation may use a different component layout, or the error may concern a missing dependency rather than this file. Run DISM and SFC before copying anything.
What if SFC says it cannot repair the file?
Run DISM first, then run SFC again. If the problem remains, use a matching Windows installation source with DISM. After that, try a System Restore or an in-place repair installation.
Should I reinstall the Wi-Fi driver?
Only when the wireless adapter itself is missing, disabled, or malfunctioning. A driver reinstall is not the normal way to restore this protected Windows DLL.
What if the error persists after repair?
Check the exact path named in the error, review antivirus Protection History, verify dependencies, and identify the application that displays the message. If Windows has broader problems, escalate to System Restore, a repair installation, or recovery after backing up your files.
