What is known about the 25,000-word claim?
The claim that Words With Friends has revamped its dictionary with over 25,000 new words is unverified. The official announcements identified here do not confirm that figure or describe a current dictionary expansion. The number should not be treated as fact without an attributable Zynga announcement or an in-game notice.
What Zynga has announced about the game’s dictionary
The 2017 Social Dictionary launch
In a September 19, 2017 company-blog post, Zynga said it was introducing 50,000 new words through a Words With Friends Social Dictionary. The company connected the additions to player requests and language inspired by players and pop culture. That announcement establishes a past update; it does not establish a 2026 revamp.
The 2026 Friendiversary contest
Zynga’s July 16, 2026 Friendiversary announcement described a 17-day in-game event and a “Become a Solo Star” contest. The stated prize gave one winner an opportunity to have a chosen word added to the official game dictionary and become a playable character in a future Solo Challenge event. It was a contest prize, not an announced batch addition of 25,000 words.

What remains unclear
The available official notices do not provide a word list, selection rules for a bulk update, app version, rollout date, or geographic availability for the alleged 25,000-word expansion. Zynga’s Words With Friends 2 help center has an announcements section, but the notices identified there do not verify the claim.
Also, an in-game word list is not interchangeable with a general English dictionary or another word game’s list. A word’s acceptance elsewhere does not establish that Words With Friends will accept it.

How to verify a future update
- Look for a Zynga announcement or an in-game notice that explicitly confirms the size and scope of the change.
- Check whether the notice identifies the game version, rollout timing, and regions affected.
- Use the game itself to check disputed words rather than assuming a word accepted by another dictionary or game is valid here.
