Blizzard’s October 1, 2026 World of Warcraft: Forever beta notes raise the level cap to 30, add dungeon access and revise several Warrior mechanics. The notes also change how Undead characters can use Cannibalize—but do not describe an Undead Paladin-specific nerf.
What changed in the October 1 beta update?
Blizzard community manager Kaivax posted the update on October 1, 2026. Its headline progression change is the new beta maximum level: 30. The post also adds a new dungeon and opens access to two more.
Level cap and dungeons
- Level cap: Players can now level up to a maximum of level 30.
- Excavation Site: Wetlands: Added for levels 26–31.
- Razorfen Downs: Now accessible to players level 25 and above.
- Uldaman: Now accessible to players level 30 and above.
The stated dungeon ranges are the notes’ access guidance; the beta cap remains level 30, even though the Wetlands listing extends to level 31.
What changed for Warriors?
The October 1 list mixes combat adjustments and fixes, so it is more accurate to treat it as a set of mechanics changes than as a blanket Warrior buff. Blizzard’s notes specify the following:
#1 Best Overall
- Warriors generate 75% more Rage when a basic attack critically strikes. This is a game-mechanic value stated in the patch notes, not an independently measured increase in overall performance.
- Rend and Sunder Armor now instantly tag enemies to the Warrior.
- Queueing Heroic Strike no longer increases off-hand hit chance.
- Spearing Strike no longer requires a two-handed weapon, but now requires Battle Stance.
- Dual Wield Specialization and Unbridled Rage, both Fury talents, receive changes.
The post identifies changes to the two Fury talents but does not provide enough detail here to characterize each one as a buff or nerf. The Heroic Strike adjustment removes an off-hand hit-chance interaction, while the Rend and Sunder Armor change concerns enemy tagging.
Is there bad news specifically for Undead Paladins?
Not in the official October 1 notes. The Undead racial entry says Cannibalize cannot be used when its caster is immune to physical damage. It is a general restriction on the ability, not a change that names Paladins or singles out that class.

That distinction matters: the headline’s “sad news for Undead Paladins” framing is an interpretation, not a class-specific patch detail established by Blizzard’s notes. The supported takeaway is the Cannibalize limitation.
How does this update differ from the September 24 notes?
Blizzard’s October 1 entries appear in a post first opened on September 24, which also contains an earlier change log. Keep the dates separate when tracking what changed: the October 1 update is the one that raises the cap to 30 and adds the listed dungeon access.

The September 24 Warrior entries covered a Sunder Armor threat correction, a Protection talent-row swap, a longer Slam cooldown, an Improved Slam change and an increased Bloodthrill proc. Those earlier changes should not be folded into the October 1 list as if they were all new in the same update.

Blizzard’s official forum post is the primary source for the October 1 beta details. A Softonic article published October 2 described circulating notes as purported or leaked and cautioned that they might be hypothetical or fan-made. That characterization conflicts with the existence of Blizzard’s dated official post; for the changes covered here, the forum post is the direct source.
