Verdict: Wowza Streaming Engine can publish video files or playlists as live content and send the resulting stream to an RTMP destination, making it a configurable option for continuous YouTube playlist streams. It is server software, not a one-click playlist service: you must configure the playback workflow and outgoing target, host and operate the deployment, and obtain the current ingest details from YouTube.
How Wowza handles continuous playlist streams
Wowza Streaming Engine offers two documented ways to publish file-based content as live: schedule on-demand files with StreamPublisher and SMIL, or use a server listener to publish a video file or M3U8 playlist. In either case, the file playback is the source of the live stream; a separate Stream Target sends that stream to a generic RTMP destination.
That distinction matters for YouTube: Wowza documents generic RTMP distribution, but the current YouTube account-specific ingest steps were not verified here. Get the current RTMP server address and stream key from YouTube’s live setup and enter those destination details in Wowza’s target configuration.
Choose a file-playback method
StreamPublisher scheduler with SMIL
Wowza’s StreamPublisher scheduler is designed to start file-based publishing according to a schedule. It uses SMIL files to identify on-demand video files and can be configured with repeat="true" for looping. The scheduler documentation says each scheduled application needs its own SMIL file. Edit scheduler SMIL files as scheduler files; Wowza notes that they should not be edited with Manager’s SMIL Files editor. See Wowza’s StreamPublisher scheduling documentation.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
This is the documented route to consider when the workflow needs scheduled starts or a playlist assembled from on-demand files. You still need to configure the application, schedule, files and separate RTMP target.
Server-listener publishing
For a simpler file-publishing pattern, Wowza documents ServerListenerStreamDemoPublisher, which can publish a VOD file as live content. The listener settings include repeat behavior, and Wowza also documents publishing an M3U8 playlist this way. Its documentation states: “Once the listener is enabled, the VOD file will loop on repeat until terminated.” This describes the listener’s playback behavior, not a guarantee about uninterrupted delivery to YouTube. See Wowza’s guide to publishing a video file as a live stream.

Configure the outgoing YouTube destination
- Prepare the Wowza source. Choose the scheduler or server-listener workflow, configure the application and ensure its on-demand files or M3U8 playlist are available to the deployment.
- Get YouTube’s current ingest values. In YouTube’s live setup, retrieve the RTMP server address and stream key for the stream. Use YouTube’s current instructions because ingest details and account requirements can change.
- Create a Stream Target. In Wowza Streaming Engine, configure a target for the generic RTMP destination, using the server address and stream key supplied by YouTube. Wowza documents RTMPS support through Stream Target configuration as well. Consult the Stream Targets documentation for the product’s current configuration details.
- Start the file publisher and verify the destination. Confirm that the source is publishing and check YouTube’s live preview or status before relying on the stream. This is an operational check; the generic RTMP documentation alone does not establish account-specific YouTube compatibility.
A single output has a different setup burden from adaptive-bitrate delivery. Wowza’s documentation calls for a separate Stream Target for each rendition and corresponding destination streams when distributing adaptive-bitrate output. If the YouTube workflow only needs one outgoing stream, do not add rendition targets without a requirement for them.
Hosting, control and maintenance
Engine is configurable server software. Wowza supports on-premises, private or public cloud, and offline deployment environments; a physical server is relevant only if you choose on-premises hosting. Cloud or virtual hosting is also possible, so buying dedicated hardware is not a universal prerequisite. Deployment options and product capabilities are described on the Wowza Streaming Engine product page.

The flexibility comes with operational responsibility: you must configure and maintain the server, source files or playlist, publisher and outgoing target for the period you intend to stream. Wowza’s published technical specifications list supported input protocols and encoding formats, but do not establish a universal minimum hardware configuration for this particular playlist-to-YouTube workload. Size a deployment against your actual format, output and hosting environment rather than assuming a specific machine will suffice.

Wowza is a fit if
- You want control over a configurable server-based publishing workflow.
- You can operate the deployment and maintain its file playback and RTMP target.
- You need a scheduled SMIL workflow or server-listener publishing for a file or M3U8 playlist.
Look elsewhere if
- You want a managed service rather than responsibility for configuring and operating streaming-server software.
- You need a confirmed YouTube-specific recipe before setup; Wowza’s generic RTMP documentation does not replace YouTube’s current account-specific ingest guidance.
- You need a verified hardware recommendation or workload benchmark; the published specifications do not establish either for this exact use case.
