The review’s central trade-off is straightforward: the wrestling itself has improved, but the route to some extra content is less satisfying. If you mainly want matches and the core game, the reviewer says you can play without extra purchases. If you want every seasonal character or are invested in MyFACTION, the paid tracks and card-dependent challenges may matter more.
How the Ringside Pass works
2K introduced the Ringside Pass as a replacement for the previous DLC model. Its launch announcement described 120 total rewards across free and Premium tracks. The official support FAQ, published February 23, 2026 and updated July 8, 2026, says every player has a free track; Premium is an optional purchase.

- Premium track: Requires a separate purchase and includes rewards unavailable on the free track.
- Progression: RXP is earned by playing supported modes while online. The FAQ lists Play Now, Universe, MyRISE, Showcase, MyGM, MyFACTION and The Island.
- Restrictions: Online lobby matches, matches with local or platform friends, simulated matches, quitting, and matches played while offline for any portion do not qualify for RXP under the FAQ’s rules.
- Tier skips: Premium buyers may optionally purchase tier skips, but can also continue earning RXP without buying them.
Pass rewards can include VC, MyFACTION packs, MFP, Island banners, DLC Superstars, Create-A-Superstar parts, Island taunts and Personas. The FAQ says six Passes are planned, one for each season. Passes do not expire, but only one can be active at a time: select the Pass you want to progress before playing.
Can you unlock Pass rewards for free?
Some rewards are on the free track and can be earned through play; Premium-track rewards are not free. RXP progression requires an online connection and qualifying play, and the rules exclude several match types and circumstances. So “free progression” does not mean every Pass reward—or every seasonal character—is available without paying.
The distinction matters when judging the review’s complaint. The reviewer’s criticism is not that the game requires payment to play, but that the new system places some desirable content behind a Premium track and that MyFACTION’s card access and challenge requirements can add friction. TechRadar also says spending can make some modes more accessible. The review does not establish that the game is strictly pay-to-win, so that label would overstate the evidence.

Do you have to buy DLC characters separately?
Not always. Some DLC Superstars are offered through Ringside Pass Premium tracks, and special editions bundle different Pass seasons or content. The exact entitlement depends on edition, platform and season. The Season 5 announcement, for example, says its Premium Track introduced Danhausen, Bam Bam Bigelow, Brie Bella and Pagano, alongside Personas and customization items. Season 4’s announcement named The Hardy Boyz, Jelly Roll and Lady Shani; it also said the WrestleMania 42 Pack was included for Monday Night War Edition owners and separately purchasable for owners of other editions.
These announcements show that post-launch content continued to arrive, but they do not establish the detailed Season 6 lineup or current prices. Check the relevant platform’s current store listing and the season’s terms before buying an edition or individual content.

Those edition prices are the U.S. list prices at announcement, not necessarily what a retailer charges now. Bundled entitlements can also vary by platform and region, so compare the live store listing with the seasons and characters you actually want. A higher edition is not automatically necessary: the Premium Pass is also separately available for individual purchase, according to official season announcements.

What the review says about MyFACTION and VC
TechRadar’s reviewer criticizes random access to MyFACTION cards and card requirements for some challenges, arguing that these can push players toward grinding or spending. That is the reviewer’s experience and interpretation; it should not be confused with the official description of the Pass mechanics.
The reviewer disclosed receiving a Monday Night Wars Edition review code and discussed having a substantial VC balance from that edition. That context is relevant to the reviewer’s comments about VC: it is not evidence that every player will start with the same balance or experience.

Can you play WWE 2K26 without spending more?
Yes, according to TechRadar’s review: the reviewer explicitly says extra spending is not required to play. The official FAQ likewise describes a free Ringside Pass track and says players can keep earning RXP without purchasing tier skips. However, Premium rewards and some edition-bundled entitlements are paid, and the review says spending can make some modes more accessible.
2K’s product disclosure says, “Game includes optional in-game purchases and paid random items.” That disclosure identifies the presence of optional purchases and paid random items; it does not by itself establish how much a player must spend, or whether a particular player will choose to spend.
Release and ongoing content
2K announced the game for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and Steam, with the Standard Edition scheduled for March 13, 2026 and three higher editions scheduled for March 6, 2026. Later seasonal additions mean the game’s content has changed since launch. The official Season 4 and Season 5 announcements establish some of those additions, but not the full current lineup or current regional pricing.
