Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Xbox CEO Asha Sharma told Microsoft gaming staff that the company is planning a “family of devices” for its next generation, known as Gen-10, rather than a single device for every player. She said Xbox will have “a great console first,” while also accounting for players who are on the go. The remarks, reported by Windows Central on October 6, 2026, do not confirm a handheld or any other specific product.
What did Asha Sharma say about Project Helix?
In remarks from an internal Microsoft gaming town hall, Sharma described the direction for Gen-10 this way, as quoted by Windows Central:

“We are moving to a family of devices for Gen-10. There is not one device that fits all. We will certainly have a great console first, but we also know that many players will be on the go. There are some things that we are the best in the world to manufacture, and there are other things that will we partner on. So, we will be sharing more about that as our plans develop. The operating system is starting to look really good. We’re very excited about this.”
Windows Central says the town hall transcript was shared with the outlet and verified by trusted sources; the transcript itself is not linked in its report. The wording should therefore be understood as Sharma’s remarks as reported by that publication, not as a transcript independently published by Microsoft.

What the “family of devices” announcement confirms
A first-party console is part of the plan
Sharma said Xbox would “certainly have a great console first.” That is the clearest product commitment in the quoted remarks: a console is planned, but no model name, design, specifications, price, or release timing was given.
Portable play is a consideration, not a confirmed handheld
Sharma acknowledged that many players will be “on the go.” She did not announce an Xbox-made handheld, confirm that a handheld is in development, or say whether portable hardware would come from Microsoft or a partner.

Xbox expects to make some devices and partner on others
Sharma said Xbox would manufacture some things itself and work with partners on others. She did not name a company, device, or arrangement, so the remarks do not establish which products would be first-party or partner-made.
The operating system remains in development
Sharma said the operating system was “starting to look really good” and that Xbox would share more as plans develop. The statement does not identify the OS’s features, how it will differ from current Xbox software, or which devices will use it.

How this fits with Sharma’s earlier comments
In an August 2026 BBC interview, Sharma had already described Project Helix as “a great next generation and a great family of devices,” according to GamesRadar+. She also discussed the possibility of playing PC games as well as console games on a console, alongside affordability and efficiency pressures in the hardware industry. That earlier framing is consistent with the town hall remarks, but neither account sets out a specific Helix lineup.

The town hall report provides no device count or confirmed form factors beyond the planned console. It also gives no technical specifications, price, launch date, retail availability, compatibility details, named hardware partner, or confirmation of a handheld. As a result, it does not yet support a buying decision or a comparison between Helix models.
