Xbox’s February 25, 2025 update added shareable invite links for multiplayer sessions on Xbox Cloud Gaming and expanded its “Stream your own game” catalog to more than 50 titles. The link makes it easier to join a session; it does not give every recipient a free game license or cloud access. Both features remain subject to game, account, subscription, device, and regional requirements.
What changed in the February 2025 update?
Xbox announced two related but distinct cloud-gaming changes on February 25, 2025:
- Multiplayer invite links: eligible players could generate a link to invite others to a cloud-gaming session.
- A larger owned-game catalog: Game Pass Ultimate members could stream more than 50 select games they already owned on supported devices.
This is a report on a dated update, not a claim that the original rollout began recently. Xbox has since expanded its owned-game catalog, and current plans, supported devices, and game availability can change.

In the original rollout, the host needed to be a Game Pass Ultimate member playing through Xbox Cloud Gaming in a supported browser or TV environment. The game also had to support both cloud play and multiplayer.

- Start a multiplayer game in Xbox Cloud Gaming.
- Open the Xbox Guide or the game’s invite menu.
- Choose the “Anyone” tab.
- Copy the generated invite link and send it by message, group chat, or social media.
“Anyone” is the audience option for the link, not an override for account, game, subscription, or regional requirements.
Joining in a browser or on mobile
- Open the link in a supported browser.
- Sign in with an Xbox profile.
- Select “Play with Ultimate” when prompted.
Opening the link does not itself supply a game entitlement or subscription. Xbox said all players needed an Xbox account and an entitlement to the game; some games also required Game Pass Ultimate. Requirements can vary by title and current service rules.
Joining on a TV
The TV process uses a short code rather than simply opening the link on the television:

- Open the invite link on a phone or PC.
- Select “Join on a different device.”
- Note the short code shown.
- On the TV, open the Xbox Guide and choose “Have a game session code?”
- Enter the code to join.
The TV and region must be supported. Xbox’s TV support page lists compatible ecosystems and devices; compatibility is model-dependent.
What invite links do—and don’t—do
An invite link is a way to bring players into a session, not a universal guest pass or license-sharing feature. Players need Xbox accounts, the required game entitlement, and any subscription required for that particular game or cloud access. The game’s own player limit still applies, as do its multiplayer and cross-platform rules.
The creator can revoke a link to stop new players joining. That does not necessarily remove people already in the session; removing current players depends on the game’s own session controls.

The February 2025 announcement described invite links for Game Pass Ultimate members. Xbox’s current Cloud Gaming page now lists cloud gaming with Essential, Premium, and Ultimate in the U.S. That broader current plan language should not be read as proof that every invite-link function has identical eligibility across plans. “Stream your own game” lets eligible users play selected games they own through Xbox Cloud Gaming instead of downloading them locally or streaming them from their own console. Xbox says select games users own or buy can be streamed even when they are not part of Game Pass.
It is not the full Xbox library. A purchase alone does not guarantee cloud access: the title must be supported for this feature, the entitlement must be recognized in the relevant Xbox ecosystem, and the game must be available for the player’s region, plan, and device. Do not assume a purchase from Steam, Epic, or another storefront—or a physical disc—automatically qualifies.

The catalog has grown since the initial announcement
The “50-plus” figure refers to the February 2025 launch-era catalog, not today’s total. Xbox later cited more than 250 supported games in a July 2025 Xbox PC app preview for Insiders, then more than 450 owned games for Game Pass Ultimate members across supported devices in August 2025. Those are dated milestones, not a dependable current count. For the current selection, check the live Xbox Cloud Gaming catalog.
Examples Xbox named in February 2025 included Blasphemous 2, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, Slime Rancher 2, Subnautica, Subnautica: Below Zero, The Talos Principle 2, and Tomb Raider IV–VI Remastered. Treat these as historical examples, not a complete or guaranteed current list.

Xbox’s current cloud page gives minimum connection guidance of 10 Mbps for mobile devices and 20 Mbps for consoles, PCs, and tablets, and recommends 5 GHz Wi-Fi. Actual results depend on network stability, latency, device, location, and service conditions. A compatible controller is generally needed, although selected games support touch controls.

Troubleshooting common problems
- The link opens, but the game will not start: Check the Xbox account, subscription or game entitlement, supported region and device, and whether the title supports cloud multiplayer.
- Your owned game is missing: Ownership does not make a title cloud-eligible. Look for it in the live catalog and confirm the purchase is tied to a supported Xbox entitlement.
- The TV join code does not work: Start from the invite link on a phone or PC, choose “Join on a different device,” then enter the code through the Xbox Guide’s “Have a game session code?” option.
- A player cannot be removed: Revoking the invite link only blocks future joins. Use the game’s own session controls to remove someone already playing, if the game allows it.
- Cloud multiplayer feels delayed or unstable: Try a stable 5 GHz Wi-Fi connection or wired network where available, reduce competing network traffic, and remember that routing and distance to cloud servers affect latency.
- The controller is not recognized: Check that it is connected by supported Bluetooth or USB and that the game supports it; touch input is available only in selected titles.
Cloud streaming versus installing or Remote Play
Cloud streaming is convenient when you want to avoid a download or play on a supported phone, browser, or TV. It depends on service availability and network quality, and can add latency or impose limits on image quality, accessories, or other features.
Installing locally is usually preferable for offline access, consistent performance, or lower latency, but requires compatible hardware and storage. Xbox Remote Play is different: it streams from your own configured Xbox console, which must be online, rather than from Microsoft’s cloud gaming servers.
For current subscription tiers, supported devices, regional availability, and cloud-game eligibility, consult Xbox’s Cloud Gaming page and Game Pass page. Catalogs and plan entitlements can change, so historical counts and rollout terms should not be treated as present-day guarantees.
