Xbox Game Pass Ultimate: Everything You Need To Know (Updated August 2026)

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is currently listed at $22.99 per month in the United States. It combines Xbox console and Windows PC libraries, cloud gaming, online console multiplayer, select day-one releases, EA Play, Fortnite Crew, Ubisoft+ Classics, in-game benefits, discounts and enhanced Microsoft Rewards earning. It is the best fit for players who use more than one platform or regularly stream games; PC-only players can usually get what they need for less with PC Game Pass.

The biggest caveat is that “day one” does not mean every Xbox-published game. Microsoft says future Call of Duty titles will not join Game Pass at launch under its April 2026 policy.

What Ultimate actually gives you

Access, not ownership

A Game Pass title can be downloaded to a supported console or PC, or streamed from Microsoft’s servers. You can play while your subscription is active and while the title remains in the catalog. Downloading does not create a permanent license. A game bought separately remains playable after cancellation, and a Game Pass discount can reduce the cost of that purchase.

One subscription across several screens

Ultimate covers compatible Xbox consoles, Windows PCs, supported handhelds, phones and tablets, browsers, selected smart TVs and selected Meta Quest headsets. The game, operating system, region and delivery method determine what is actually available; a console title is not automatically a native PC or handheld download.

The catalog and how to check a game

Xbox advertises more than 500 Ultimate games, but the number and individual titles change by region, licensing agreement, plan and platform. Use the live catalog rather than an old list. Check each title for separate labels such as console install, PC install and cloud play. Xbox says most catalog games are cloud playable, not all of them.

• First-party Xbox franchises and backward-compatible games appear alongside independent and multiplayer releases.
• EA Play titles are governed by EA’s availability and account requirements.
• Some PC installations use another launcher or require an EA, Ubisoft or publisher account.
• Cloud, console and PC release dates can differ.

Day-one releases—and the Call of Duty exception

“Day one” means access begins when Microsoft and the publisher designate an eligible game for the plan, subject to region, platform and technical requirements. It is not a promise that every Xbox release enters Ultimate on launch day.

In its April 21, 2026 announcement, Microsoft said future Call of Duty games will not be available in Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass at launch. They are expected to arrive around the following holiday season, approximately a year later. Existing Call of Duty games already in the catalog remain subject to their listed terms.

Xbox consoles

Install compatible Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S games locally. Ultimate also supplies online console multiplayer for paid games.

Windows PC

Use the Xbox app for Windows and sign in with the subscribing Microsoft account. The app requires Windows 10 or Windows 11 version 22H2 or higher; each game has its own processor, memory, storage and graphics requirements. Some games invoke a third-party launcher. Handhelds

Supported handhelds may run a compatible Windows installation, download games or use streaming. Xbox does not promise the full console catalog as a native handheld library.

Phones, tablets, browsers, TVs and VR

Cloud Gaming supports selected Windows devices, Apple and Android phones and tablets, Xbox consoles, selected LG, Samsung and VIDAA televisions, Amazon Fire TV, browsers including Edge, Chrome and Safari, and selected Meta Quest headsets. Cloud gaming explained

Cloud Gaming runs the game remotely and sends video and audio to your device. Ultimate advertises the best streaming quality and shortest waits among Game Pass plans, but queues, data-center distance and network conditions still matter. Select games you own or buy can also be streamed; ownership alone does not make every game streamable.

What you need

• An active eligible subscription and a cloud-supported title
• A supported device, browser or Xbox application and region
• A compatible controller over Bluetooth or USB, unless the game offers touch controls
• At least 10 Mbps download speed; some devices need about 20 Mbps for best quality
• Preferably 5 GHz Wi-Fi, low latency and little competing traffic

Packet loss, congestion and latency can make a fast connection feel poor. Streaming also uses substantial mobile data. If the picture stutters, move closer to the router, switch to 5 GHz, stop other high-bandwidth activity or use Ethernet where possible.

EA Play, Fortnite Crew and Ubisoft+ Classics

EA Play

EA Play is bundled with Ultimate and PC Game Pass. It is a membership benefit, not ownership of every EA game on every platform; some titles require the EA app or a linked account. A PC-only player should not upgrade to Ultimate solely for EA Play.

Fortnite Crew

Ultimate currently includes Fortnite Crew, including its monthly benefits and Fortnite passes under applicable terms. Contents, regional eligibility and treatment of an existing Crew subscription can change. Review the current benefits page and check your account to avoid duplicate billing.

Ubisoft+ Classics

The bundle includes Ubisoft+ Classics, a curated catalog—not automatically the broader Ubisoft+ Premium subscription. Console and PC availability, account linking and included games differ; see the Ubisoft support FAQ.

Multiplayer, in-game benefits, discounts and Rewards

Online multiplayer

Ultimate includes online console multiplayer for paid games. Free-to-play games generally do not require a paid Game Pass plan for online play. PC multiplayer does not need a separate console-multiplayer subscription, although a game may require its own publisher account.

In-game benefits

Participating games can offer monthly or seasonal content, such as benefits for Call of Duty: Warzone and League of Legends. These are not universal DLC. They may require account linking or redemption and can be time-limited. Xbox says benefits are removed when you unsubscribe or move to a plan that does not include them.

Discounts

Xbox says Ultimate, PC Game Pass and certain other plans receive up to 20% off select games in the Game Pass library. Offers vary; the discount does not apply to every game or add-on. See Game Pass Deals.

Microsoft Rewards

Ultimate currently advertises up to 4× more Rewards points. The multiplier and redemption value depend on country, Rewards level, qualifying activity and current terms, so it is not a guaranteed cash rebate. See Microsoft Rewards.

How to subscribe, install, stream and cancel

Subscribe

1. Open the official purchase page.
2. Sign in with the Microsoft account used on Xbox or Windows.
3. Review the regional price and any eligible introductory offer.
4. Confirm payment and recurring-billing terms.
5. Open Game Pass on console, the Xbox PC app or Cloud Gaming and sign in with that account.

Promotions can be limited to eligible or new subscribers and normally convert to the regular recurring price.

Install on Xbox

1. Open the Store or Game Pass area.
2. Select a title marked as included.
3. Choose Install and select storage if prompted.
4. Launch it with the subscribing account.

If Install is unavailable, check whether the title is cloud-only, PC-only, leaving the catalog, region-restricted or excluded from your plan.

Install on PC

1. Open the Xbox app for Windows and sign in.
2. Choose a compatible PC title and select Install.
3. Complete any EA, Ubisoft or other launcher/account prompt.
4. Check the game’s hardware and storage requirements.

Start cloud gaming

1. Confirm the title has a cloud-play label.
2. Open Xbox Cloud Gaming or a supported app.
3. Sign in and connect a controller unless touch controls are offered.
4. Select the game and choose the cloud-play option.

Turn off renewal

Use Microsoft account Services & subscriptions → Game Pass Ultimate → Manage → turn off recurring billing or cancel. Console labels can move between dashboard versions, so use Microsoft’s subscription-management instructions. Cancellation normally stops future renewal rather than instantly ending paid time. A refund request for the most recent recurring charge may be available within 30 days, subject to Microsoft’s one-time and eligibility limits; it is not an unconditional guarantee.

What happens when a game or subscription ends?

• A title leaving the catalog cannot be played through Game Pass unless you buy it or it returns.
• Save data can remain available if you later purchase or regain access, subject to the game and account.
• Purchased games remain licensed separately; discounted purchases are still purchases.
• Perks and in-game benefits end when the relevant subscription benefit ends.
• Third-party accounts, launchers, cross-save and mod support vary by game.

Check remaining time and conversion terms before stacking or upgrading existing PC Game Pass, Essential, Premium, EA Play, Fortnite Crew, Ubisoft+ or promotional subscriptions. Family sharing is not a blanket promise: home-console settings, PC accounts, cloud access and third-party benefits can differ, so check Microsoft’s current household rules.

Ultimate versus the cheaper plans

At current US prices, Ultimate is about $9 more than PC Game Pass, $8 more than Premium and $13 more than Essential each month.

Who should choose Ultimate?

Strong fit

• You regularly play on both Xbox and PC.
• You use cloud gaming often and have a reliable connection.
• You want eligible day-one releases plus console multiplayer.
• You play enough EA, Fortnite or Ubisoft content to use the bundled benefits.
• You value trying many games more than permanent ownership.

Consider a cheaper plan or buying games

• You play only on PC: PC Game Pass is substantially cheaper.
• You mostly play free-to-play games: a paid multiplayer plan may not be needed.
• You return to one or two owned games and rarely try new releases.
• Your internet is unreliable, your region has fewer cloud features, or you want permanent ownership.
• You expect every major Xbox release—especially every future Call of Duty—on day one.

Does Ultimate include Xbox Live Gold?

Microsoft no longer markets Xbox Live Gold as a separate current plan. Ultimate includes online console multiplayer for paid games.

No. Xbox supports streaming for select owned or purchased games, not every title.

Do I keep games after canceling?
