Xbox Insider release notes have moved from Xbox Wire to Xbox Support. Microsoft began the transition on April 15, 2024, so the change is no longer upcoming. It affects where preview-update notes are published—not whether Xbox Insider testing continues.
What changed—and what did not
Microsoft moved release notes for Xbox Insider preview updates from the Xbox Wire blog to Xbox Support. The coverage includes Xbox console previews and PC-related previews, such as Xbox app and Game Bar updates. Microsoft said the Support site would organize notes by Insider ring, with pages for Alpha, Alpha Skip-Ahead, Beta, Delta, Omega, and Xbox App Preview / PC Gaming Preview. Choose the page for the ring or preview program your device is enrolled in; users do not receive every ring’s update, and flight timing can differ.
This was a publishing-location change. Microsoft did not announce that Xbox Insider was closing, that the rings were being removed, or that the testing process or preview eligibility was changing. Its announcement said coverage of console and PC preview updates would continue, with notes presented in a different format. Microsoft’s April 15, 2024 announcement describes the move and the new organization.
When the move happened
Microsoft first previewed the relocation on February 6, 2024, saying it would happen over the following several weeks. On April 2, it said the formal transition was expected that month. The change began on April 15, 2024. These dates mark an announcement and rollout completed in 2024, not a planned change still waiting to happen. Microsoft’s earlier updates are the February Community Update and the April Community Update.

Why Microsoft moved the notes
Microsoft said the Support site would give Xbox release notes a more central, consistent destination, with a separate page for each Insider ring and easier access to older notes. The company also said the move would leave Xbox Wire with more room for other editorial content. The intended benefit for readers is a ring-based archive rather than relying on a stream of blog posts to locate an update.
How to find the right release notes
- Go to the official Xbox Support website.
- Search for Xbox Insider release notes.
- Open the page for your enrolled console ring or PC preview program.
- Use that page’s historical list or its “Related topics” links to find an update or move between ring pages.
Use the official Support site as the starting point rather than relying on a deep link copied from an old post: the page organization or labels may change over time. The migration announcement described ring pages, historical lists, and “Related topics” navigation, but does not establish that a particular Support URL or menu path remains unchanged.

What the notes tell you
Release notes describe a particular preview build or app update. Depending on the release, they can include a build or app version, release date and time, mandatory-update timing, new features, fixes, known issues, workarounds, and guidance for submitting feedback. For example, the Beta console notes show update details and known issues, while Alpha Skip-Ahead notes cover features, fixes, and workarounds. These are preview-build notes, not a promise that every feature will reach the public Xbox release. A feature may be experimental or limited in rollout, and a known issue may apply only to a particular build or ring. Broader Support documentation explains troubleshooting or program information; community discussions are user conversations, not official confirmation that a fix is available.

What happened to older Xbox Wire posts?
Microsoft said the new ring pages would include historical notes dating back to the beginning of 2024. It also warned that some rings might initially be missing a few pre-April entries, which it planned to upload in the following weeks. So a gap at launch did not necessarily mean an update had never been released.
Older Xbox Wire release-note URLs may still appear in search results or remain useful as historical posts. For current notes and the ring archive, start at Xbox Support; an old post is not the primary destination for new releases.

Reporting an Insider problem is separate from reading notes
A release-notes page is not a customer-service ticket system, and reading it does not enroll you in an Insider ring. For a problem on a preview build, use the Xbox in-product feedback or reporting tools and the official Xbox Insiders community channels described in Microsoft’s update guidance. Check the relevant known issues and existing discussion before submitting a duplicate report where Microsoft recommends it. Community posts can add useful context, but they are not a substitute for an official release note or fix announcement.
