Xbox’s Windows app brings supported PC games from multiple storefronts into one library, adds a curated My apps section, and shows recent play activity across supported Xbox devices. These features arrived in stages from 2025 into 2026—not as one update—and they do not merge purchases, accounts, or every game save into a single Xbox system.
What changed, and when?
The headline combines several releases. The aggregated library, My apps, and cross-device play history were introduced on separate schedules, first to Insiders and then through broader rollouts.

What the unified Xbox PC library does—and does not do
The aggregated library is a front end for browsing and launching games. It can show Xbox PC and Game Pass games alongside installed titles detected from supported third-party storefronts. Xbox specifically cited Battle.net and other leading PC stores, but has not promised that every storefront or every game will appear. Xbox’s library announcement

A game appearing in the Xbox app does not mean Xbox sold or installed it. The original store or publisher may still handle its license, account sign-in, updates, anti-cheat, mods, achievements, and saves. Selecting a title may open its original launcher. A Steam purchase does not become a Microsoft Store purchase, and Game Pass does not grant ownership of every title shown in the library.

Control which storefronts appear
- Open the Xbox app and select your profile picture.
- Choose Settings, then Library & Extensions.
- Review the listed storefronts and toggle off any whose games you do not want shown.
Xbox documented this control path in its September 2025 library announcement. Labels can vary with app version and device.
What is My apps?
My apps is a curated section of the Xbox library for selected third-party applications, including game launchers, storefronts, browsers, and gaming utilities. Xbox introduced it for PC Gaming Preview Insiders in August 2025 and described it as a collection intended to grow over time. It is not a list of every Windows app, nor a replacement for the Start menu or Microsoft Store. My apps announcement; August update

On supported versions, open My Library and select the My apps tab to browse available entries. You can use it to locate, download, or launch listed apps, but the exact choices and labels depend on the rollout and device.

Cross-device play history is not universal save syncing
Xbox’s cross-device feature is best understood as play-history sync: recent activity and entry points can appear across supported Xbox experiences. In the PC app, look for areas such as Most Recent, Jump back in, or the play-history portion of My Library; placement depends on the app version. A compatible title may resume through local play, installation, or cloud gaming, depending on the game and access available. August rollout details; September update

Do not assume the 2025 play-history rollout moves every save file. Actual save behavior depends on the game, storefront, Xbox Play Anywhere support, cloud-gaming session, and account or service used. How to find and launch games
- Sign in to the Xbox app on a supported Windows 11 PC or handheld.
- Open My Library or My games and look for installed titles detected from Xbox and supported PC storefronts.
- Select a game to launch it. The original storefront or launcher may still be required.
- If the title is missing, check the storefront controls and troubleshooting steps below.
Xbox says the core experience spans Windows 11 PCs and handhelds. Arm-based PC availability depends on Xbox app and operating-system support. If a game does not appear
Automatic detection can fail for practical reasons: the storefront may not be supported or may be disabled; its launcher may be absent or signed out; the game may be installed for another Windows account, moved to a different drive, or identified differently in Xbox’s catalog. A cloud-playable console title may not be locally installable on PC, and device architecture or compatibility can also matter.

- Confirm the original game launcher is installed and signed in.
- Check Profile picture > Settings > Library & Extensions and make sure the relevant storefront is enabled.
- Restart the Xbox app after installing or moving the game.
- Try launching the title once from its original storefront and confirm it is installed for your current Windows account.
- On supported handheld builds, look for an add-to-library or manage-library control to add an installed game or app manually. Xbox’s April 2026 update supports custom names, icons, and launch options, including mod parameters or special launch commands.
- If Xbox provides only a shortcut or the game needs its original launcher, continue using that launcher for sign-in, updates, and game-specific features.

Who benefits, and what remains separate?
- Handheld players: A controller-oriented library and Xbox mode can reduce desktop navigation, where those features have rolled out.
- Players with games across stores: The combined view can make installed titles easier to find, subject to storefront and game detection.
- Players switching between Xbox devices: Play history provides a route back to recent games, while save continuity remains game- and service-dependent.
- Players who want deep customization: Xbox’s curated approach may not suit users seeking extensive metadata, categories, automation, or broad launcher management.
Xbox is an aggregation and launch layer, not a replacement for Steam, Epic, Battle.net, EA, Ubisoft, or other storefronts. Those services remain authoritative for their purchases and may still be needed for accounts, updates, and game-specific functions. Alternatives such as Playnite or GOG Galaxy may suit people who want a different library-management approach, but their current integrations and capabilities should be checked independently. For a handful of programs, desktop shortcuts or the Windows Start menu may be simpler.
The Xbox app is available as a Windows gaming app; a Game Pass subscription is not required merely to use the aggregated library or My apps.
