Xiaomi’s Redmi G Pro 2024 gaming laptop received a lower-cost configuration in China on July 12, 2024. It pairs Intel’s Core i7-14650HX with the same RTX 4060 Laptop GPU used by the more expensive Core i9 model, while retaining the reported 2560 × 1600, 240Hz display and 210W system power target.
The 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD configuration launched at 7,299 yuan, compared with 8,999 yuan for the Core i9-14900HX version. That is a reduction of 1,700 yuan, or approximately 18.9%.

It went on sale in mainland China at 10:00 a.m. local time on July 12, 2024. The earlier model used Intel’s Core i9-14900HX with the same RTX 4060 GPU and launched at 8,999 yuan.

“Slimmed-down” means lower specification, not necessarily thinner
The phrase “slimmed-down” can be misleading. Available launch coverage describes a reduced or cut-down configuration, primarily because the new laptop uses a lower-tier processor. There is no reliable evidence that the i7 model has a thinner chassis, lower weight, or materially smaller dimensions.
Buyers should therefore view this as a more affordable Core i7 configuration, not as a lightweight redesign. The Redmi G Pro remains a substantial gaming notebook, and the listed approximately 2.7kg weight for the wider 2024 model should not automatically be assumed to apply identically to this configuration.

The Core i9 is clearly stronger for heavily threaded work such as rendering, video encoding, compiling and virtual machines. It has eight additional efficiency cores and eight additional threads, along with higher maximum clock speeds.

However, there are no controlled i7-versus-i9 gaming benchmarks in the available launch coverage. A specific frame-rate difference should not be assumed.
Why the cheaper model could make sense for gaming
The most important gaming component remains unchanged: both configurations use the RTX 4060 Laptop GPU, not the desktop RTX 4060. Launch reporting gives the mobile GPU a power limit of up to 140W, with a reported total system performance target of up to 210W.

At the laptop’s native 2560 × 1600 resolution, modern games are often limited more by the GPU than by the processor. That means the i7 version could deliver broadly similar gaming performance in GPU-limited titles, particularly when both models use the same graphics power target and cooling design.
This is an informed specification-based assessment, not a benchmark result. CPU-limited esports games, very high-refresh-rate gaming and simulation-heavy titles could benefit more from the Core i9. The i9 also remains the better choice for professional workloads that use many CPU threads.
The RTX 4060’s reported 8GB of GDDR6 memory is adequate for many games, but can become a constraint at ultra settings and in demanding future titles, especially at 2560 × 1600. A 240Hz panel does not mean modern AAA games will run at 240 frames per second at native resolution.
Display and graphics features
Launch materials and multiple contemporary reports specify a 16-inch panel with:
- 2560 × 1600 resolution, often described as 2.5K
- 240Hz refresh rate
- 3ms response time
- NVIDIA G-SYNC support
- Up to 500 nits brightness
- 100% sRGB coverage
- 10-bit color support
- DC dimming
Xiaomi also reported a Delta E below 0.4, but that is a manufacturer specification rather than an independent measurement.

There is a refresh-rate discrepancy in the available data: a Notebookcheck database entry lists 120Hz for an i9 model, while launch reports consistently identify the 2024 configuration’s panel as 240Hz. Buyers should verify the exact panel listed by the seller, particularly when importing.

Cooling, memory and storage
The reported cooling system uses dual fans, three heat pipes and a vapor chamber. The i7 version reportedly retains the same 210W total system target, 130W CPU ceiling and 140W GPU ceiling as the original configuration.
Those figures suggest Redmi did not substantially reduce the RTX 4060’s power budget to reach the lower price. They do not, however, prove identical sustained performance, temperatures or fan noise. Those factors require independent testing.
The launch configuration includes 16GB of DDR5 memory and a 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD. Reported expansion support includes:
- Two memory slots, with capacity up to 96GB claimed in launch information
- Two M.2 2280 storage slots, with total capacity up to 8TB claimed in launch information
Maximum upgrade figures can depend on module compatibility, firmware and regional configuration, so buyers should confirm the exact machine before purchasing replacement parts.

The reported port selection is unusually broad for a gaming laptop:
- One Thunderbolt 4 port
- Three USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 ports
- One USB-A 2.0 port
- One Mini DisplayPort 1.4
- One HDMI 2.1 port
- One RJ45 Ethernet port
- One 3.5mm headphone jack
- One SD card slot
Wired networking, multiple USB-A connections, several external-display options and Thunderbolt 4 make the laptop practical for a desk setup without relying heavily on dongles.
Other features
The notebook reportedly includes RGB lighting on the keyboard and rear of the machine, along with three graphics modes: dedicated graphics, integrated graphics and hybrid graphics.
Xiaomi ecosystem features include camera integration and keyboard-and-mouse sharing between compatible devices. These may be useful for owners of other Xiaomi products, but they are convenience features rather than major gaming advantages.

No confirmed global or European release was identified in the 2024 launch reporting. Third-party importers could offer the Chinese model, but the 7,299-yuan figure is a Chinese launch price, not a delivered U.S. retail price.

An imported unit may cost substantially more after adding:
- International shipping
- Import duty and sales tax
- Currency-conversion and payment fees
- Seller markup
- Potential return shipping costs
Buyers should also confirm the keyboard layout, Windows language options, preinstalled Chinese-market software, charger plug, warranty territory and replacement-parts availability. Warranty service may depend on the original seller or be limited to China.
A locally sold RTX 4060 laptop with a weaker headline specification can still be the safer purchase if it includes straightforward returns, local repair support and a meaningful warranty. Compare the fully landed cost rather than converting 7,299 yuan directly into dollars.

Choose the Core i7 model if gaming is the priority, you value the RTX 4060 and high-refresh display, and you can buy it near its Chinese launch price while accepting the risks of importing. It preserves the key graphics hardware and reported power limits while reducing the launch price by nearly one-fifth.
Choose the Core i9 model if you regularly render, encode video, compile large projects, run virtual machines or otherwise depend on maximum multi-core CPU performance. It is also more defensible if the price gap becomes small after discounts or import costs.
Verdict
The Redmi G Pro 2024 Core i7 configuration is a sensible gaming-focused reduction rather than a thinner laptop. Its strongest value argument is that Redmi cuts the CPU tier and price while retaining the RTX 4060 Laptop GPU, reported 140W graphics power and 2560 × 1600, 240Hz display.
For gaming, the i7 model is potentially the more rational configuration, although the absence of direct benchmarks means no precise performance parity should be claimed. International buyers should judge it by the final delivered price, warranty and service arrangements—not by the attractive 7,299-yuan China launch price alone.
