XREAL’s GDC 2024 AR Game Demos and the Hub Charge-and-Play Adapter

XREAL’s GDC 2024 demos ranged from an outdoor-RPG concept to an educational AR museum. The Hub is a wired charge-and-play adapter for compatible devices, not a wireless or standalone AR system.

At GDC 2024, XREAL demonstrated several AR and spatial-computing experiences, including Landing Party, Table Trenches, apparatus and the Halo AR Museum. The company also introduced the XREAL Hub, a wired USB-C adapter that lets compatible devices send video to XREAL glasses while receiving power. These were announcements from March 2024, not a new 2026 launch; the Hub is currently listed on XREAL’s US store for $39.99, though its stock status is unclear.

What XREAL demonstrated at GDC 2024

XREAL’s demonstrations were part of a developer-facing showcase at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, held March 18–22, 2024. They illustrated possible uses for its glasses; they did not establish a finished, downloadable game catalogue. Windows Central reported demonstrations at the Alibaba Cloud and DeepMirror booths and at the GDC Post Awards Expo Party on March 20 (Windows Central; GamesBeat).

Landing Party

Landing Party, from Monsarrat, was described as an outdoor-RPG concept. The available event coverage establishes it as a demonstration, not as a commercially released game readers could necessarily download or buy.

Table Trenches and apparatus

Table Trenches and apparatus were also among the experiences named in the GDC coverage. The reports do not provide enough detail to assign them release status or describe them as products available to the public.

Halo AR Museum

The Halo AR Museum was presented as a 3D educational and exploratory experience designed for XREAL Air 2 Ultra glasses. Its content included science subjects such as astronomy, biology, chemistry and physics. It showed that the demonstrations extended beyond games into educational and museum-style uses.

What the demos were meant to show

The showcase made a developer-facing case for building spatial and AR experiences for glasses connected to an external device. That is distinct from using glasses as a wearable screen for conventional games: a Steam Deck or console game displayed on a large virtual screen is not, by itself, an AR-native game. The GDC reports describe examples and prototypes, not proof that AR gaming had become mainstream or that every experience shown was released.

KIHENG HDMI to USB-C AR Glasses Adapter, 4K 60Hz, for HDMI Source Devices
  • HDMI-to-USB-C: This HUB features the capability to convert HDMI video output ports into USB-C video output ports, designed for the following use cases: Connecting Switch OLED/Switch 2 to USB-C AR glasses or USB-C portable displays. Connecting PS4/PS5 to USB-C AR glasses or USB-C portable displays. Connecting Xbox to USB-C AR glasses or USB-C portable displays. Connecting TV boxes to USB-C AR glasses or USB-C portable displays. Connecting Laptop (with HDMI port) to USB-C AR glasses or USB-C portable displays. The hub's USB-C video output port supports to RayNeo/VITURE/Xreal/Rokid AR Glasses, as well as portable displays.
  • DP Protocol Video Output: Xreal AR glasses connect correct to the HUB but there is no sound or not video on glasses, you need to switch the Xreal AR glasses to DP Mode(𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐏𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐀𝐥𝐭 𝐌𝐨𝐝𝐞) according to the AR glasses manual. Except for Xreal AR glasses, which require switching to glasses mode, AR glasses from other brands do not require this. This hub is not compatible with the Meta Quest/PICO/HTC Vive VR-Headsets and Epson AR Glasss.
  • Compatible with USB-C Portable Monitors: The HUB's power cable can only supply power to AR glasses and displays, with a maximum power output of 10W (5V 2A). It cannot power source devices, so source devices require separate charging. When using a USB-C portable display, you must first connect an external power source to the display before connecting it to the hub. Otherwise, the display may operate intermittently or experience screen blackouts. Please note the power consumption of the monitor.
  • Note the Source Device Interface: This HUB is used for Switch, PS4/5, XBox, TV Box, and other video output devices need to make sure your device has HDMI video output port, if there is no HDMI video output port but has USB C video output port, we recommend using a USB-C to USB-C hub. Of course, we also sell USB-C to USB-C hub, please search Amazon ASIN B0G59TSXFP. However, do not use these two HUBs together at the same time. The hub is not compatible with the DHCP feature on PS4/PS5, laptops, or other HDMI source devices. Please disable the DHCP feature on your device before connecting it to the hub; otherwise, the hub may not function properly.
  • Note the HUB's Interfaces Connection is Stable: You can connect a Portable Charger to the HUB to keep it working properly, thereby solving the power supply issue for the HUB during travel. If a display malfunction occurs, please unplug and replug the cables to ensure each connection is secure and free from looseness. Or replace the 4K HDMI cable and power cable. If you need to use the display's touchscreen functionality, you can check out another hub by searching for Amazon ASIN B0GGR7TCYT.

What the XREAL Hub does

The Hub addresses a practical limitation of wired glasses: the USB-C port used to send video from a phone or handheld may also be the device’s only convenient charging port. The two-port adapter lets the source continue sending video while power comes in from a charger or power bank. It can also pass USB-C DisplayPort video to another compatible external display.

  • Power input: Connect a wall charger or power bank here.
  • Video output: Connect the XREAL glasses or another compatible DisplayPort display here.
  • Source connection: Connect the Hub’s attached USB-C cable to the phone or handheld.

The Hub is a power-and-video accessory, not a wireless adapter or a computer. It adds no game processing, operating system, or tracking hardware, and it does not make the glasses standalone.

Hub specifications: announcement versus current listing

Source and date Published detail
Original announcement, March 2024 Up to 120Hz for 2D content and up to 90Hz for 3D content, at a maximum resolution of 1080p in those configurations, according to the event coverage (GamesBeat).
Current XREAL US product page, checked August 18, 2026 Up to 120Hz passthrough and 45W fast charging; the page also describes lossless image passthrough. These are XREAL’s current product-page claims, not a guarantee of a particular result in every setup (XREAL Hub product page).
Current listed US price, checked August 18, 2026 $39.99. The page displays purchase controls alongside a “Notify me when available” message, so check stock and checkout status before relying on availability (XREAL Hub product page).

Refresh rate and resolution depend on the source device, game or content, cable, glasses model and display mode. The current store page emphasizes up to 120Hz passthrough but does not repeat the original announcement’s separate 3D limit, so those 2024 figures should not be treated as a complete current specification sheet.

Compatibility and connection requirements

XREAL’s current US product page lists the Nintendo Switch and Switch OLED, Steam Deck and Steam Deck OLED, ROG Ally, and smartphones with DisplayPort video over USB-C as compatible sources. It lists XREAL One Pro, One, Air 2 Ultra, Air 2 Pro, Air 2 and Air glasses as compatible. Compatibility can still vary with the device, cable, charger and firmware; USB-C as a connector does not itself guarantee video output. The page specifically excludes iPhone 14 and earlier models with Lightning ports (XREAL Hub product page).

Phones, Steam Deck and ROG Ally

For a phone, handheld or other compatible USB-C source, first verify that the device supports DisplayPort video over USB-C. Then connect power to the Hub’s power-input port, connect the glasses to its video-output port, and connect the Hub to the source. A phone with USB-C but no DisplayPort video output will not display an image through the Hub.

Nintendo Switch

XREAL’s current guide says the Switch cannot connect directly to the glasses because of USB-C voltage limitations. Using the Hub requires a power supply or power bank; the Hub does not remove the Switch’s external-power requirement or replace every dock and adapter arrangement. Follow the guide’s supported output configuration and connect the Hub, power source and glasses as directed (XREAL user guide).

PlayStation and Xbox

The Hub alone does not convert a console’s HDMI output to USB-C video. XREAL’s guide says PlayStation and Xbox connections need an HDMI adapter and an HDMI-to-USB cable. The correct setup can vary by console and adapter, so treat that as a hardware requirement rather than a universal plug-in sequence (XREAL user guide).

Glasses model and intended use

The 2024 coverage discussed Air-series glasses, while the current US Hub listing also includes One-series models. That list confirms Hub compatibility as presented by XREAL; it does not mean all models have identical tracking, spatial features or display capabilities. Many glasses are used as wired displays, and the Hub does not turn ordinary display glasses into full 6DoF AR hardware.

Is the Hub worth buying?

Your setup or need What to consider
You already own compatible XREAL glasses and use a one-port USB-C phone or handheld The Hub is relevant if you want to charge during a wired display session.
You play long sessions on a compatible handheld or phone Simultaneous power and video may be useful, provided the source supports DisplayPort over USB-C.
You use a Nintendo Switch It may help with the connection, but you still need an external power supply or power bank.
You want wireless video, standalone AR or more spatial tracking The Hub does not provide those features.
You want to connect PlayStation or Xbox Plan for the required HDMI conversion hardware; the Hub is not the complete solution.
You mainly need glasses for conventional gaming on a large private screen Separate the display use case from AR-native experiences like the GDC demonstrations.

At the US store’s listed price of $39.99, the Hub is an optional accessory rather than a prerequisite: compatible devices can connect directly to glasses when they provide USB-C DisplayPort video. Its value is greatest when charging and wired display use need to share a port. It is a poor fit if the device lacks video output over USB-C, if you expect a cable-free setup, or if your main need is spatial tracking. Check the product page for current stock before ordering.

Troubleshooting a missing image

  • Confirm video support: Check that the source device supports DisplayPort video over USB-C. Charging support alone is not enough.
  • Check cable and port direction: Use the Hub’s video-output port for the glasses and a cable capable of carrying video, not just power.
  • Check power: Try a wall charger if a low-output power bank does not provide enough power for the setup.
  • Reconnect or restart: Reconnect the glasses and source; if needed, restart the source with the Hub connected.
  • For a console: Verify the HDMI adapter and cable chain, since the Hub does not perform HDMI conversion.

If the source charges but the glasses show no image, the cable, port or source may support power without supporting DisplayPort video. For XREAL One-series glasses connected to consoles, XREAL’s guide advises using DP audio mode; volume may then need to be adjusted in the glasses’ menu rather than on the console (XREAL user guide).

What changed after the GDC announcement

The demos remain a record of XREAL’s GDC 2024 developer outreach, while the Hub has a current listing on XREAL’s US store. The store’s compatibility list now includes One-series glasses as well as the Air models named in launch-era coverage. Its displayed price and availability signal are US-store details checked August 18, 2026, not a promise of stock in other regions.
