Yes—but only through an unofficial homebrew emulator called ProsperoEden, and only on a PS5 that can run homebrew. This is not a built-in PlayStation feature: the project is an early-alpha port of the Eden Nintendo Switch emulator, and game compatibility and performance vary widely.
What lets a PS5 run Switch games?
ProsperoEden is an unofficial port of the Eden emulator for modified PlayStation 5 consoles. It is not supported or endorsed by Sony or the Eden team, and it does not add Nintendo Switch compatibility to an ordinary PS5. The project describes itself as an early alpha and cautions that results differ from game to game. Project repository
The practical catch is the console setup: you need a PS5 capable of running homebrew and a compatible jailbreak/software configuration. The consulted sources do not establish which models or firmware versions can be modified, so there is no firmware-independent installation path to recommend. A PS5 purchase alone does not make Switch games playable.
Which games have been reported to work?
Notebookcheck’s October 3, 2026 report recorded these results for the build and configurations it tested. They are specific reported observations, not guarantees or a standardized benchmark; frame rates can change with the game, emulator build, and setup. Notebookcheck’s report

Tom’s Hardware’s September 28, 2026 snapshot also described Breath of the Wild as unplayable and Animal Crossing as having major issues at around 15 FPS. Android Authority’s September 29, 2026 account summarized user reports of Cuphead and Hollow Knight running at 60 FPS, and Horizon Chase Turbo, Mario vs. Donkey Kong, and Metroid Dread at roughly 40–50 FPS. These were user reports, not verified editorial tests. Android Authority’s report

What version and features are documented now?
The project repository inspected on October 3, 2026 lists ProsperoEden v1.000.040. It documents Vulkan as the recommended renderer as well as an OpenGL renderer. That is newer project documentation than some coverage: Notebookcheck’s October 3 article described an OpenGL-only emulator, while Tom’s Hardware’s September 28 article covered an earlier build. The repository lists per-game resolution and renderer settings, handheld and docked modes, DualSense support, save import and export, and game-file storage on internal storage, M.2, external drives, or USB. It says video, audio, controller input, and saves have been confirmed working. Up to four DualSense controllers are supported; the project documentation does not establish that you need a separate Switch controller.

What do you need, and how does setup work?
In addition to a homebrew-capable PS5 setup, the project expects users to supply their own game files, keys, and firmware. Its release does not include those materials. The repository says not to download or redistribute them. Whether copying or using particular files is lawful depends on the relevant jurisdiction and circumstances; the consulted sources do not establish a universal legal answer or warranty consequence. The README’s high-level installation outline is:
- Install the ProsperoEden release files in the PS5 homebrew location.
- Provide your own dumped game keys, firmware, and game files.
- Choose the folder containing those files in the app. It may be on internal storage, an M.2 or external drive, or a USB device.
- Reopen the app so it can check the setup.
The repository does not establish a single set of instructions that works for every PS5 model or firmware. Check the project’s current documentation and your console’s actual homebrew compatibility before attempting installation.

Is this an alternative to playing on Switch?
Not reliably for every game. The reported results range from 60 FPS in some titles to severe slowdowns and major issues in others, while the project itself warns that compatibility and performance vary. ProsperoEden is best understood as experimental homebrew for people with a compatible modified PS5—not as a way to turn any PS5 into a Switch, or as an official route to play a Switch library.
