Yes—Doom has been demonstrated on Nintendo’s Sound Clock: Alarmo through a community project, not an official Nintendo feature. Its creator’s published instructions describe building the project on a PC and loading it onto the clock over USB. The guide requires the Doom shareware data file and AES key and IV setup; a November 2024 report says Alarmo’s buttons and dial were used for gameplay.
What the Alarmo Doom project is
GaryOderNichts’s project is titled “Doom for the Nintendo Alarmo.” The creator credits the STM32Doom port, a Game & Watch Doom project’s flash-memory implementation, and the miniz compression library. It is a community-made project; Nintendo’s product documentation establishes the clock’s USB connection but does not describe or endorse running Doom on it.
The project’s README describes using Doom shareware data. That is the project’s stated requirement, not a determination of what rights or permissions apply to every user’s use of the game files.
What you need and how the published loading steps work
The following summarizes the project author’s README. These are the author’s instructions, not independently tested steps.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- A PC and a USB cable for connecting Alarmo. Nintendo’s European product leaflet identifies a USB port on the underside; its USB AC adapter is sold separately.
- The project repository, cloned with its submodules.
- The Doom shareware file
doom1.wad, placed in the project’sdatadirectory. - The AES key and IV entered in
key.py, followed by a build usingmake.
- Clone the project with its submodules, then follow the README to enter the AES key and IV in
key.py. - Put
doom1.wadin thedatadirectory and runmaketo build the project. - With Alarmo connected to a PC by USB, hold the confirm, back, and notification buttons while connecting it.
- Wait for the top dial to light red and for a drive to appear on the PC. Copy
a.binandMarkFileto that drive. - Disconnect Alarmo. The README says Doom should then run.
Nintendo’s leaflet documents the underside USB port for the product; it does not document this button combination or homebrew loading process.
Controls and audio: what has been reported
A November 3, 2024 report by Nintendo Life says Alarmo’s buttons and knob can control gameplay. The report does not give a verified button-by-button control map, so exact assignments should not be assumed.

In the same report, the project author said the demonstrated build had no audio support. The author explained that the WAD had to be compressed and decompressed to external memory at boot to avoid USB-loader memory-size restrictions, while noting that the shareware version could be loaded entirely from USB without modifying Alarmo. This is a description of the build at that time; it does not establish whether a current build has audio.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What is and is not established
- The community project was demonstrated running Doom on Alarmo, and a dated report describes its buttons and dial being used to play.
- The creator published a PC-and-USB loading procedure and build requirements.
- The sources reviewed do not establish an exact control mapping, frame rate, display resolution, or current audio status.
- The project’s loading procedure does not name the creator’s separate Alarmo research tools as requirements.
The creator maintains a separate Alarmo tools repository that describes an OpenOCD payload intended to brute-force the Alarmo content key and a USB payload that displays a cat image. Those are separate tools, not stated prerequisites for the Doom project’s published build and loading steps.
