To run a news ticker over looping video on YouTube, build the composition in an encoder, connect it to YouTube Live Control Room with the server URL and stream key, then verify the moving ticker, video loop, audio, and stream health in preview before going live. For a 24/7 transmission, plan how you will restart or segment the stream: YouTube automatically archives streams under 12 hours, not an indefinite broadcast as one continuous replay.

What you need before you start

You need a YouTube channel enabled for live streaming, an encoder workflow that can combine the ticker and video, and an upload connection capable of sustaining the chosen stream settings. YouTube’s encoder workflow uses a server URL and stream key; the key is a credential, so do not publish it or include it in screenshots or public documents.

  • Video source: a looping clip or playlist that you have the rights to broadcast.
  • Ticker source: text or graphics composed in the encoder workflow. YouTube’s setup guidance does not prescribe a ticker generator, exact placement, font size, or loop duration.
  • Encoder connection: the YouTube server URL and stream key entered in the encoder.
  • Archive plan: a way to end and restart or otherwise manage the transmission in segments if you need saved replays.

YouTube’s encoder setup guide covers the connection and preview workflow. Its encoder settings guidance explains supported ingest settings and recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport.

Configure resolution, frame rate, codec, and bitrate

Choose settings your upload connection can sustain continuously. YouTube recommends testing upload capacity and testing with representative audio and motion; a published bitrate is a technical target, not a guarantee that your connection will hold it. The figures below are YouTube’s H.264 recommendations, current guidance accessed in 2026.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Output YouTube-recommended H.264 bitrate
720p at 30 fps 8 Mbps
720p at 60 fps 8 Mbps
1080p at 30 fps 14 Mbps
1080p at 60 fps 17 Mbps

These are encoder ingest recommendations, not viewer download requirements. YouTube’s chart varies by codec, resolution, and frame rate; consult its current bitrate chart for other combinations rather than extrapolating from this selection.

  • Protocol: RTMP or RTMPS; YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport.
  • Codec: YouTube lists H.264, H.265, and AV1. Confirm your encoder and workflow support the selected option.
  • Rate control: use constant bitrate (CBR), as YouTube recommends.
  • Keyframes: set a 2-second interval and do not exceed 4 seconds.
  • Audio: YouTube lists AAC or MP3. Test that the stream has the intended sound and that any silent sections are deliberate.
  • Frame rate: YouTube supports up to 60 fps. Match the output to the source and the motion you need to show.

If the connection cannot sustain the target reliably, reduce resolution or frame rate and test again. A stable lower setting is preferable to an intermittent stream that repeatedly loses quality or disconnects.

Create the stream and connect the encoder

  1. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create a stream or schedule one. Set the title, audience designation, and privacy as appropriate. If scheduled viewers need advance notice, share the stream’s watch-page URL.
  2. In Live Control Room, copy the server URL and stream key. Treat the key like a password: YouTube says channel owners and managers can reset it. If it is exposed, reset it and replace the saved key in your encoder.
  3. In the encoder, enter the server URL and stream key, then set the output resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, CBR, keyframe interval, and audio format.
  4. Compose the ticker and looping video in the encoder workflow. Check text contrast and size, motion, transitions, and the join between the end and start of the loop.
  5. Start the encoder and wait for the Live Control Room preview. Check the actual output before starting the public stream.
  6. Go live from Live Control Room when the preview and stream health are satisfactory. Verify the watch page on the devices and screens your intended viewers use.

YouTube’s encoder settings page describes preview and stream-health checks. Its streaming tips recommend setting up an encoder two hours before a scheduled event and starting it 15 minutes beforehand. Those are preparation recommendations, not a 24/7 uptime guarantee.

Make the ticker and loop readable in the real output

There is no YouTube-prescribed ticker safe area, type size, or loop length in the cited setup guidance. Treat these as production decisions and judge them in the actual preview and watch page rather than relying on the encoder canvas alone.

  • Use enough contrast between ticker text and its background, and check legibility at the intended viewing size.
  • Keep critical text clear of other on-screen elements. Check that the ticker does not cover important content in the video.
  • Watch at least one full loop. Look for blank or black gaps, abrupt cuts, frozen frames, duplicated clips, or an audio transition that does not match the video.
  • Test audio and movement representative of the real stream, not only a still frame or silent opening slate.
  • Confirm that the ticker updates and scrolls as intended during the preview, and that it remains readable while the background moves.

YouTube supports horizontal and vertical live formats, including vertical layout options. If you send both formats using the corresponding keys through a third-party encoder, check ticker legibility and placement in both outputs; a composition that works in a horizontal frame may be cropped or crowded in a vertical one. YouTube’s live format guidance describes the available format and layout options.

Choose viewer settings deliberately

Live Control Room settings affect how viewers experience the broadcast. Check the current settings for the stream before going live.

  • Privacy: choose public, unlisted, or private according to who should be able to watch.
  • Latency: lower latency can make interaction more immediate, but may increase buffering. Select it based on whether real-time conversation matters more than playback stability.
  • DVR: viewers can pause and resume when DVR is enabled. Decide whether that behavior suits a continuous news-style stream.
  • Auto-start and auto-stop: confirm whether the stream should start or stop automatically when the encoder connects or disconnects.

YouTube documents these controls in Manage live stream settings. Test the selected combination against the intended audience experience rather than assuming one setting suits every broadcast.

Plan around the 12-hour archive limit

YouTube Help states: “All streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived.” This is not a promise that a 24/7 transmission will be saved as one continuous replay. If you need accessible archives, plan stream ends and restarts or manageable sub-12-hour segments, and verify that each intended segment appears as expected. The cited YouTube setup guidance does not establish a seamless restart method for indefinite broadcasts.

Continuous transmission and continuous replay are separate goals: plan for stream continuity operationally, and plan archive segments separately. Consider how a segment boundary affects viewers, scheduled watch-page links, and the ticker or loop when the encoder reconnects.

Troubleshooting common problems

Symptom Likely cause What to check or do
Live Control Room shows no preview The encoder has not connected, or the server URL or stream key is wrong. Check both copied values, confirm the encoder is sending, and wait for the preview before starting the stream. If the key was exposed or may be invalid, reset it in YouTube and update the encoder.
Stream health is poor or the stream disconnects The upload connection may not sustain the selected bitrate continuously. Test upload capacity with representative motion and audio. Reduce resolution, frame rate, or bitrate to a level the connection sustains, then monitor stream health again.
Ticker looks clipped, tiny, or hard to read The layout is not legible at the actual output size or is affected by a different aspect ratio. Adjust text size, contrast, and placement, then inspect the preview and watch page. If using horizontal and vertical outputs, test each one separately.
Loop has a black gap, abrupt cut, or frozen section The source clips or encoder playlist may not join cleanly, or the output may have stalled. Watch a complete loop in preview, inspect the source transitions, and confirm motion continues in the actual stream.
Viewers report buffering Latency choice, viewer connection, or the broadcast’s delivery conditions may be contributing. Review the latency setting and test the intended viewing experience; YouTube notes that lower latency may increase buffering.
No replay appears for a long-running broadcast The transmission may have exceeded YouTube’s documented automatic-archive duration. Check whether the stream ran for 12 hours or longer and use a segmented archive plan for future broadcasts.
