If a YouTube 24/7 stream goes black between videos, first find out whether it is a problem with that stream, your device, or YouTube playback generally. Try the same stream on another supported device, compare it with another YouTube video, then work through the checks below. YouTube’s published troubleshooting guidance does not identify one universal cause for black intervals between segments.
First, isolate where the problem occurs
When the screen goes black, note whether audio continues. Then compare the same stream on another supported device and play an ordinary YouTube video on the original device. These comparisons help distinguish a stream-specific transition from a device or broader playback issue.
- If only one device shows the black screen, focus on that device, its YouTube app or browser, and its connection.
- If other YouTube videos also have playback trouble, troubleshoot the app, browser, network, or device.
- If the same interval is black on multiple devices while other videos play normally, the issue may be specific to the stream or its transition. The checks below can narrow it down, but do not guarantee a repair.
Fixes to try on a computer
- Update and restart. Install available browser and computer updates, close and reopen the browser, and restart the computer.
- Reduce competing browser activity. Close excess tabs and retry the stream.
- Compare browsers. Open the same stream in another supported browser. If it works there, the issue is more likely tied to the original browser or its settings.
- Check graphics rendering if relevant. YouTube documents turning off Chrome hardware acceleration and updating the graphics driver for a green player with audio. That guidance addresses a green picture, not this specific black-screen-between-videos symptom, so treat these as adjacent rendering checks rather than established fixes.
Fixes to try on a TV or streaming device
- Reopen YouTube. Quit the app and launch it again.
- Check connection and quality. Confirm the device is connected to the internet, then try a different playback quality in the player.
- Refresh the account session. If the issue remains, sign out of YouTube and sign back in.
- Restart and update the device. Restart the TV or streaming device and install any available system software updates.
- Try another playback route. Cast the stream from a different device, or connect a laptop to the TV with HDMI and play the stream there. YouTube suggests these as alternate ways to play a title; they are useful comparisons, not guaranteed repairs.
- Check other services. If multiple streaming apps have similar problems, consult the device manufacturer’s support site.
Check the connection, video quality, and transition
YouTube says playback quality can depend on connection speed, the player and screen size, the source video’s quality, and browser support for newer formats. Temporarily lower the stream’s playback quality and, if possible, compare over another network. If the black interval changes, that is useful diagnostic information; YouTube’s guidance does not promise that changing quality or networks will resolve this particular symptom.
When videos are queued separately
If one video ends and a separate queued video should play next, check Autoplay on the device you are using. YouTube says Autoplay plays another related video after a video ends, and its setting can differ between devices. This setting concerns what plays after a video ends; it is not established as a fix for black frames within one continuous 24/7 stream.

Primetime Channels on a TV
If the playback is specifically through YouTube Primetime Channels on a TV, YouTube recommends the Default broadcast-delay setting to minimize interruptions. Choosing Decrease can reduce live spoilers, but leaves less buffer and increases the likelihood of interruptions. This guidance applies to Primetime Channels on TV, not every YouTube live stream. YouTube also notes that congestion and other factors can cause live programming issues or delay a stream.
Report a persistent problem
If the black screen persists after the comparisons and device checks, reproduce it and submit feedback through YouTube’s Help and Feedback flow soon afterward. Include the stream link, approximate time, device, YouTube app or browser, and whether audio continued; these details help describe the symptom. If playback trouble also affects other services, contact the device manufacturer.
