As a rough illustration, a continuous 25 W load uses about 18.2 kWh in 30.4 days, or roughly ₹55–₹146 in energy charges using the domestic rates listed in BSES’s 2025 information guide. That is not a complete bill estimate and does not establish what any particular PC will consume.
Estimate the electricity cost from measured watts
Use the average power draw measured at the wall while the intended stream is running—not a low-power label, idle reading, or the computer’s power-supply rating.
Monthly energy (kWh) = average wall draw (W) × 24 hours × 30.4 days ÷ 1,000.
Estimated energy charges = monthly energy (kWh) × applicable domestic energy rate (₹/kWh).

BSES Rajdhani Power Limited’s 2025 information guide lists domestic energy-charge bands of ₹3.00, ₹4.50, ₹6.50, ₹7.00 and ₹8.00 per kWh for its stated monthly consumption bands. These are schedule rates from that guide, not a complete current bill quote. The actual marginal cost depends on your electricity distributor, total household consumption, applicable band and bill adjustments. DERC publishes distributor-specific tariff orders; consult your distributor’s current order and your bill for a more precise figure: DERC tariff orders.
Example monthly energy charges
The following are arithmetic examples, not measurements of typical PCs or test results. They multiply each assumed continuous wall draw by 24 hours and 30.4 days, then apply the low and high rates listed in BSES’s 2025 guide. They exclude fixed charges, taxes, fuel or power-purchase adjustments, subsidies and other bill items, and do not model your household’s full consumption slab.

The ₹3–₹8 range uses the domestic energy-charge rates listed in BSES’s 2025 guide; it is not necessarily your marginal bill rate. If the added load changes the household’s applicable consumption band, your actual bill impact can differ.
Measure the complete streaming setup
- Connect a plug-in energy monitor between the wall outlet and the equipment you want to include. This is a measurement method, not a recommendation for a particular monitor.
- Run the actual streaming workload for a representative period and record average power. Encoding can draw more power than idle operation, so measure with the intended encoder, resolution and frame rate active.
- Decide what the estimate covers. A tower-only reading excludes a monitor, router, audio hardware and any separate encoder. Include those devices in the measurement if they will also run continuously.
- Insert the measured average watts into the monthly-energy formula, then multiply by the energy rate that applies to your household’s total consumption.
No published figure in the cited official sources establishes a typical low-power desktop’s continuous YouTube-encoding draw. A 10 W, 25 W or 40 W estimate should therefore be treated as a scenario until you measure your own setup.

Encoder and upload bandwidth
YouTube’s encoder workflow requires the YouTube Live server URL and stream key to be entered in an encoder. Its recommended encoder settings give a recommended H.264 bitrate range of 5–14 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps. The computer’s encoding suitability depends on the content, chosen output settings and hardware encoder; its idle power draw alone cannot tell you whether it will handle the workload.
YouTube advises leaving upload-bandwidth headroom, including 20% in its network recommendations, and warns that connectivity disruption can break a stream. Test the actual setup and monitor stream health before relying on it for long sessions.

Live eligibility and archives
YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance says a channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days.
There is also an important archive limit: YouTube Help says, “All streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived.” It warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If you need reliable archives, plan separate sessions rather than assuming one 24-hour broadcast will be saved. Compare computers by workload, not by label
If you are deciding between an existing desktop, a low-power mini PC or another always-on computer, compare these factors before buying:
- Measured wall draw: compare average watts during the planned encoding workload, not idle readings or advertised component ratings.
- Hardware encoder support: confirm that the system can produce your selected resolution, frame rate and bitrate reliably.
- Recovery and stability: consider how the setup behaves after power or network interruptions and whether you can monitor and restart it.
- Purchase cost: compare the equipment cost with the electricity cost calculated from your own measured load.
The cited sources do not establish a best PC model, typical low-power PC consumption or current product prices. Treat any recommendation as conditional on verified encoder support and measured wall draw.
