While your broadcast is live, monitor it in YouTube’s Live Control Room for stream health and real-time audience figures. After it ends, open YouTube Studio on desktop and go to Content > Live > select the stream > Analytics > Engagement for its video-level report, including concurrent viewers and chat messages. YouTube says post-stream metrics become available within minutes, though that is not an exact processing-time guarantee.
While the livestream is running: use Live Control Room
Open the stream dashboard in YouTube Live Control Room. It is the operational view for an ongoing broadcast: stream health can show the current status and specific error messages with instructions, while real-time analytics can show audience and engagement figures. YouTube lists concurrent viewers, duration, likes, chat rate, views, and estimated average view duration for computer or encoder streams. The metrics shown can vary depending on whether you are streaming from a phone or an encoder. YouTube Help: See your live stream’s metrics.
Use this view to answer questions such as whether the stream is healthy and how many people are watching simultaneously right now. It is a live operational view, not the same reporting context as the processed Analytics report available after the event.
After the livestream ends: open its video-level report
- On a desktop browser, sign in to YouTube Studio.
- Choose Content, then the Live tab.
- Select the livestream you want to review.
- Choose Analytics, then open Engagement.
YouTube’s desktop instructions identify this report as the place to review concurrent viewers and chat messages for an ended livestream. The concurrent-viewer report is at video level, and YouTube says its metrics are available within minutes after the stream ends. Processing time is not stated as a guaranteed deadline. YouTube also describes a post-stream snapshot with views, new subscribers, total watch time, peak concurrents, duration, average view duration, and reactions. Which figures you see depends on the report and interface available for your stream. YouTube Help: See your live stream’s metrics.
What the live and post-stream numbers mean

Live Control Room and post-stream Analytics can differ. YouTube says Analytics is based on the video ID and is processed and despammed; it measures different information from Live Control Room. Treat the live dashboard as the place to monitor the event as it happens and the later report as the source for retrospective analysis, rather than expecting every figure to match exactly. For broader performance, follow the viewer journey
If you are assessing more than the live audience count, YouTube recommends looking at performance through appeal, engagement, and satisfaction. In the Content tab guidance for live content, these map to thumbnail impressions and click-through rate, views, and average view duration. YouTube Help: Content tab analytics tips.
- Appeal: Impressions count times the thumbnail was shown on YouTube, excluding external sites and apps. Click-through rate describes how often viewers watched after seeing the thumbnail.
- Engagement: Views help describe viewing activity. For a livestream, do not confuse total views with the number of people watching simultaneously.
- Satisfaction: Average view duration is the average minutes watched per view for the selected content and filters.
These measures address different parts of the viewing journey; read them together in the relevant Analytics report instead of treating any single metric as a complete verdict on a stream.

If the Studio layout looks different
YouTube reported that an updated Analytics experience in Studio began rolling out gradually in July 2026, so exact placement and layout may differ between accounts. Follow the stable section names—Content, Live, Analytics, and Engagement—where available. YouTube says Advanced Mode provides expanded reports, comparisons, and export options.
